Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research and write legal memoranda on issues related to police misconduct and the operations of the agency.
- Conduct best practices research and draft proposals for police reform.
- Collaborate with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), attorneys, advocacy groups, and local and federal agencies on issues affecting police accountability.
Education and Experience Information:
- Candidates must be currently enrolled law students.
- Fall/Spring clerks must commit to a minimum of 12 hours per week.
- Summer clerks must have completed their second year of law school and commit to working 40 hours per week for 10 weeks.
- Courses in government, public policy, civil rights, and criminal justice are viewed favorably.
- Foreign language skills, especially Spanish, are advantageous.
- Strong legal research, analysis, and writing skills are required.
- Familiarity with electronic legal research databases is necessary.
- Undergraduate students are not eligible to apply.
Salary Information:
- Fall/Spring internships are unpaid but can be done in conjunction with a course for academic credit.
- Summer internships are paid positions.
