Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on various public interest law areas.
- Perform client intakes to gather necessary information and assess legal needs.
- Draft legal pleadings for use in various legal proceedings.
- Prepare for trials by organizing documents, evidence, and other necessary materials.
- Attend client hearings to observe and assist in legal processes.
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners to enhance service delivery.
- Connect clients with local resources to provide comprehensive support.
- Engage in community outreach to raise awareness about legal services and support available.
- Participate in virtual and in-person training sessions to enhance legal skills and knowledge.
- Meet and network with local judges and attorneys through the Lunch & Learn program.
- Observe court proceedings in both district and federal courts to gain practical insights.
- Observe court diversion programs such as Veterans’ Treatment and Sobriety Courts.
- Participate in social activities organized by staff and students to build camaraderie and professional connections.

Education and Experience Information:
- First- and second-year law students are eligible to apply for the summer positions.
- Applicants should demonstrate a strong interest in public interest law.
- Candidates must possess the ability to exhibit initiative, self-motivation, and deductive reasoning skills.
- Basic computer knowledge is required, with skills in Microsoft Office and Legal Server being desirable.
- Excellent communication skills are necessary, with comfort in speaking on the phone or in person with clients.

Salary Information:
- The summer positions are unpaid. While the organization is unable to offer a stipend, efforts will be made to locate affordable housing solutions for the summer law students, although this is not guaranteed.
