Allegheny County District Attorney's Office is offering an exciting opportunity for law students interested in public service and criminal law. Our internship program provides hands-on experience in various units within our office, including Domestic Violence. We are currently accepting applications for our Fall Certified Legal Interns, with the application period starting on July 1, 2025 and closing on August 8, 2025.

As a Certified Legal Intern, you will have the opportunity to appear in court on behalf of the Commonwealth under the direct supervision of an Assistant District Attorney. This may include handling guilty pleas, suppression motions, and non-jury trials. To become certified, law students must have successfully completed an Evidence course and submit an application for certification, along with a Dean's certification, to the Pennsylvania Board of Law Examiners. This is a valuable opportunity for eligible students to gain courtroom experience before graduating from law school.

Our office serves as the Chief Law Enforcement Office of Allegheny County and works closely with over 100 active police departments, including the City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, the Allegheny County Police Department, and the Allegheny County Sheriff's Department. We also handle complaints from private citizens. Our main office is located in the Allegheny County Courthouse, with additional offices in downtown Pittsburgh.

We have a team of over 100 attorneys with expertise in various areas, and interns will be placed in a specific unit based on their skills and interests, as well as the needs of the office. The internship program is administered by Assistant District Attorney Sarah Weikart, and any inquiries can be directed to her via email at sweikart@alleghenycountyda.us.

As an intern, you will have the opportunity to engage in legal research and writing, assist with trial and hearing preparation, and accompany attorneys to various court proceedings. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience and learn from experienced attorneys in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Application Process:

- Law students can apply by submitting a cover letter indicating their interest in a paid internship or credit externship.
- Interns will have the opportunity to work on legal research and writing, as well as assist with trial and hearing preparation.
- Eligible students can also become certified and appear in court on behalf of the Commonwealth under the direct supervision of an Assistant District Attorney.
- The application period for Fall Certified Legal Interns starts on July 1, 2025 and closes on August 8, 2025.
