Department of the Interior:

Duties:
- Conduct legal research on environmental, administrative, and Indian law issues
- Draft legal memoranda, briefs, and motions
- Assist with discovery in active federal cases
- Participate in conference calls and strategy sessions with agency counsel and Justice Department lawyers
- Opportunities to attend hearings and meetings in Washington D.C. area
- Strong encouragement for Native American candidates to apply
Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national
- Must successfully pass a background investigation
- Selective Service registration required for male applicants born after December 31, 1959
- Applicants must be students
- Eligible students include undergraduate students, public policy graduate students, first-year, second-year, and third-year law students, and law school graduates enrolled in graduate law programs
- Must be in good academic standing and provide official documentation from school
- First-year, first-semester law students may apply after December 1 for internships the following summer
- Must be enrolled at least part-time in a juris doctorate or LLM program at an American Bar Association accredited law school
- Must maintain status as a current student in good standing during externship
Compensation and Benefits:
- This is a volunteer position without compensation
- Eligible for academic credit
- Not eligible for benefits
- Eligible to participate in Transit Subsidy Benefit Program
