Summer Clerkship Program at Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office
The Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office is offering a Summer Clerkship Program for law students interested in gaining hands-on experience in public service and criminal law. The program will begin on Jan. 5, 2025 and will close on March 3, 2025. The program offers a variety of units within the Office where interns may be placed, including the Juvenile Court.
Available Positions:
- Summer Internship Program: All students participating in the program are expected to be present in the office for 15-20 hours per week. Paid positions require 20 hours per week.
- Allegheny County Bar Association Summer Clerkship Program: The DA’s Office participates in this program for 1Ls. Interested applicants should direct any questions to the ACBA.
Application Process:
Law students can apply for a paid internship, credit externship, or either type of position by indicating their preference in their cover letters. On Campus Interviews (OCIs) are available for students at specific law schools, and questions should be directed to the office of career services. Non-OCI applicants can submit their cover letter and resume by email to the Assistant District Attorney. Undergraduates can also apply for the program, but approval of credits does not guarantee a position.
Intern Duties:
All interns will have the opportunity to engage in legal research and writing, clerical duties, and assisting attorneys in trial and hearing preparation. Certified Legal Interns will have the added responsibility of appearing in court under the direct supervision of an Assistant District Attorney. Students must dress appropriately and will be held to the same standards as an Assistant District Attorney in court.
