H2: Overview of Attorney General Agencies and Divisions

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) offers a volunteer Law Clerk program for law students, providing them with the opportunity to serve the citizens of Maryland in various legal fields. This program allows law clerks to gain hands-on experience in areas such as criminal investigations, consumer protection, and counsel to state agencies. Clerks will have the chance to conduct legal research and writing, participate in witness and client interviews, and assist with litigation in Maryland's trial, administrative, and appellate courts.

The OAG is the largest and most prestigious law firm in the state of Maryland. They handle a wide range of legal matters, including criminal investigations and prosecutions, environmental enforcement, civil litigation, appellate advocacy, and representation of the state in various legal arenas. As counselors and litigators for the agencies and institutions of Maryland State Government, the OAG has a successful track record of addressing complex legal issues. The Law Clerk Program allows participants to make a difference in communities all across the state, from protecting the environment to keeping families safe from violence and fraud.

- Excellent legal research and writing abilities
- Strong communication and team skills
- Great work ethic and positive attitude
- Law clerks are expected to work a minimum of 15-20 hours per week
- Course credit may be available for eligible law clerks

To apply for the Law Clerk Program, students must complete the following steps:
1. Fill out the Law Clerk Application Form
2. Submit a cover letter, resume, and unofficial transcript in PDF format to Ronda Kirk at rkirk@oag.state.md.us
3. Use "Law Clerk Program Application" as the subject line of the email
4. Applicants may be asked for a writing sample or references if invited for an interview

H2: Law Clerk Application Form

To complete the Law Clerk Application Form, students must provide the following information:
- Name, email, and phone number
- Law school and year (1L, 2L, or 3L)
- GPA
- Applying for Spring, Summer, or Fall term

H2: General Practice Areas and Divisions

Law clerks can indicate their preferred practice areas and divisions on the application form. The OAG offers a wide range of practice areas, including administrative proceedings, appellate litigation, criminal law, and more. They also have various divisions, such as Aging, Antitrust, Consumer Protection, and Environmental Service. Law clerks can choose up to two general practice areas and three specific divisions they are interested in. They may also be contacted by a division not initially selected.

The Law Clerk Program has specific application deadlines for each term:
- Spring: October 15
- Summer: March 1
- Fall: August 15
