Job Responsibilities:
- Support attorney inquiries by providing legal research and memos, ensuring all deadlines are met.
- File pleadings in Cook County and Federal Courts, as well as handle tax appeals.
- Set up motions as required.
- Record documents at the recorder’s office, including deeds, amendments, and declarations.
- Obtain copies of documents from city, county, state, and federal departments.
- Deliver courtesy copies to judges and ensure delivery of documents to attorneys in court.
- Bill time and expenses daily, as needed.
- Conduct various searches upon request, such as property tax, social security number, license plate, Pacer bankruptcy, and active military searches, and update the status in applicable law firm systems.
- Provide back-up support to the Front Desk Clerk during absences to ensure court filings and retrievals are completed and forwarded to the appropriate recipients in a timely manner.
- Scan and profile foreclosure notices and emails into the document management system.
- Perform legal research as required.
- Forward documents interoffice via messenger when necessary.
- Execute any other general duties as necessary or required.

Education and Experience Information:
- Currently attending law school as a 2L or 3L student.
- Completion of a Legal Writing Course.
- Possession of a 4-year undergraduate degree.
- Prior clerking (filing) experience with a law office is preferred.

Competencies:
- High comfort level with Microsoft Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, and the ability to learn specialized software.
- Strong organizational skills with excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Capability to work independently and take initiative to accomplish tasks.
- Strong research and writing skills with familiarity in using Lexis or Westlaw.
- Ability to multi-task with focused attention to detail and proofreading.

Salary Information:
The starting hourly rate for this role is $23.00 per hour, dependent on experience. The position is non-exempt and requires approximately 25 hours of work per week, fully in-office, with no hybrid work option. The work schedule will be confirmed at the time of hire in coordination with the Human Resources Manager and/or department manager.
