The Maryland Judiciary is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to fill the role of Law Clerk. This is a full-time, at-will position with a competitive salary and generous benefits package. The Law Clerk will provide legal support to the Judge by conducting legal research, reviewing motions and court files, drafting memoranda, and attending court proceedings as requested. The ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited law school and prior legal writing experience. Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct legal research and provide up-to-date information to the Judge
• Review motions and court files and draft memoranda
• Attend court proceedings as requested
• Perform various duties based on the level of court (District Court, Circuit Court, Appellate Court, and Supreme Court)
• Deliver and triage chamber's work prior to sending to the Judge
• Respond to research questions on a case-by-case basis
• Compose orders and memoranda
• Apply policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and laws as required
Qualifications:
• Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited law school
• Prior legal writing experience preferred
• Knowledge of laws, rules, court procedures, and case progression
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Ability to perform legal research and read and understand law-related materials
• Ability to compose orders and memoranda
• Ability to apply policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and laws as required
Salary Information:
• Appellate Law Clerks: 1st Year: $68,499
• Circuit Court and District Court Law Clerks:
- Non-Bar Member: $63,119
- Bar Member in any State: $70,120
