Job Responsibilities:
The Fall 2025 Law Clerk Program is a highly competitive internship opportunity offered by the organization. This program provides participants with hands-on, challenging, and relevant work experience within the criminal divisions of the Cook County Court System. Interns and law clerks will be paired with an Assistant State’s Attorney who will guide and mentor them throughout their clerkship. The primary responsibilities of the law clerk include:
- Contributing to legal research and preparing memos on pending legal issues.
- Drafting motions, answers, and other required legal filings.
- Aiding in the preparation of discovery.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the supervising attorney.
Education and Experience Information:
The position is open to all active students, with a preference for active law students. Candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Must be an active student.
- Must be in good standing with their school and not be on any type of academic probation or similar status.
Physical Requirements:
The role involves sedentary work, which includes lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. While the job primarily involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is necessary to carry out job duties. The job is considered sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally, and other sedentary criteria are met.
