Job Responsibilities:
- Assist Office attorneys with copyright-related issues that arise within the Office, before Congress, and in the courts.
- Help prepare #***# reports for Congress and may assist with the Office’s international work.
- Gain experience and insight into copyright law and policy through practical work.
- Work in one of the Office's divisions according to preferences and needs, including the Office of the General Counsel, the Office of Policy and International Affairs, the Office of Public Information and Education, the Copyright Claims Board, and the Office of Registration Policy and Practice.
- Serve for ten to thirteen weeks for thirty-five to forty hours per week over the summer or for fifteen to twenty hours per week during a fall or spring semester.
Education and Experience Information:
- Candidates must be currently enrolled in or have graduated from a U.S.-accredited law school.
- Must have a significant interest or background in copyright law, demonstrated through relevant coursework or other means.
- Must possess excellent research, writing, and editing abilities.
Eligibility and Appointment:
- The program seeks highly motivated law students with strong academic credentials.
- Law clerks may not hold a conflicting legal or research position at the same time.
- Applications are to be submitted at least four months in advance of the anticipated start date with specific deadlines for summer, fall, and spring semesters.
- Candidates should submit a statement of interest, resume, law school transcript, writing sample, and contact information for three references.

- Applications are accepted at any time, with specific deadlines for each semester.
- Candidates must submit application materials in a single document file, preferably in PDF format.
- The Office considers candidates’ academic performance, research, writing, and editing skills, performance during the interview process, references, and interest and background in copyright law.
- Selected candidates will be contacted for interviews, which may be conducted in person, by video, or by telephone conference.
- The Office does not reimburse travel expenses for interviews.
- Selections are made on a rolling basis, generally at least six weeks prior to the anticipated start date.
Salary Information:
- Law Clerks are not paid but may arrange to receive academic credit through their law school.
- In some cases, Law Clerks may obtain stipend support through public interest grant programs.
