Job Responsibilities:
The Summer Internship Program is offered by the organization within the Juvenile Criminal Division. The primary responsibilities and opportunities for interns include:
- Gaining real courtroom experience in a hands-on setting.
- Observing and participating in motion practice, contested hearings, and trials.
- Assisting with case review, investigation, and trial preparation.
- Engaging with witnesses and crime victims regarding ongoing cases.
Interns will have the opportunity to work closely with attorneys, investigators, and staff members, gaining insight into the legal processes within the District Courts, County Courts at Law, and Justice Peace Courts.
Education and Experience Information:
- Internships are available to law students who are in their 2L or 3L year or who are law school post-graduates.
- Preference is given to students eligible for a Temporary Trial Card through the Texas Bar Association.
- Internships are unpaid, and selected candidates must undergo background checks and meet other security measures.
- For those pursuing an internship for school credit, the organization will collaborate with the respective law school to meet academic requirements.
Deadlines for Application:
- For summer internships (May - August), applications must be received by April 30th.
- For fall internships (August - November), applications must be submitted by July 15th.
- Special circumstances outside these periods may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Salary Information:
- Internships are unpaid.
