Job Title: Law Clerk
Experience: Law students with excellent legal research and writing abilities, strong communication and team skills, and a good work ethic and attitude are encouraged to apply. Specific schedules will be determined based on the needs of the division and the clerk's class and extracurricular commitments, in coordination with the law clerk's supervising attorneys. Law clerks are expected to work no less than 15-20 hours per week.
Overview of Attorney General Agencies & Divisions:
- The Office of the Attorney General represents the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, which is responsible for developing and implementing policies, plans, programs, and practices to preserve and protect the state's natural resources.
- Major programs within the Department of Natural Resources include the State's Forest Service, Park Service, Fisheries Service, Wildlife and Heritage Service, and the Natural Resources Police.
- The Department also houses the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Critical Area Commission and the Maryland Environmental Trust.
- Attorneys in the Office of the Attorney General advise these programs on contractual and regulatory actions, undertake both affirmative and defensive litigation on their behalf, and review proposed real estate transactions.
- The #***# is the largest and finest law firm in the state and has a distinguished history of addressing complex legal issues successfully.
- The Office's work encompasses criminal investigations and prosecutions, securities and antitrust actions, environmental enforcement, civil litigation, appellate advocacy, and representation of the State of Maryland in virtually every legal arena.

Description:
The Office of the Attorney General sponsors a volunteer Law Clerk program that provides law students with an opportunity to serve the citizens of Maryland in a wide range of legal fields. Law clerks have opportunities to perform legal research and writing, participate in witness and client interviews, and assist with litigation of claims filed with Maryland's trial, administrative, and appellate courts.
Qualifications:
- Law clerks should have excellent legal research and writing abilities, strong communication and team skills, a great work ethic, and a good attitude.
- Specific schedules will be determined based on the needs of the division and the clerk's class and extracurricular commitments, in coordination with the law clerk's supervising attorneys.
- Law clerks are expected to work no less than 15-20 hours per week.
- Law clerks may be eligible to receive course credit.
