Job Responsibilities:
The Summer Law Clerk positions are designed to provide J.D. students with a comprehensive introduction to the legal profession within a full-service law firm environment. The program is crafted to familiarize clerks with the firm's high-quality environment, collegial atmosphere, and culture of teamwork and collaboration. Summer Law Clerks are involved in real-world legal matters, enabling them to enhance their understanding of law application in various settings and circumstances. The program includes mentoring and constructive feedback on assignments to aid in skill development. Clerks have opportunities to socialize and network with peers, attorneys, and firm leaders. The assignment system is flexible, allowing clerks to work on projects from a variety of practice areas and with different attorneys.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates for the Summer Law Clerk positions must be J.D. students enrolled at an ABA-accredited law school, graduating in December 2026 or May 2027. Candidates should ideally be in the top 30% of their class, with law review, journal, and/or moot court experience, and demonstrated leadership capabilities. The firm seeks highly qualified, team-oriented candidates from diverse backgrounds with excellent academic credentials and strong legal writing skills. Candidates should have connections to or a sincere interest in beginning their legal career in the office location to which they apply. A strong interest in the office’s practice areas is also an important factor in hiring decisions.
Salary Information:
The weekly salary range for Summer Law Clerks is $2,115 - $2,400. This pay range represents the firm's good-faith and reasonable estimate of compensation for the position, with actual compensation depending on office location.
Additional Information:
The Summer Program runs for approximately 10 weeks, beginning with a mandatory orientation in Syracuse, NY. Offices hiring for the 2026 program include Albany, Buffalo, Melville (Long Island), Rochester, Syracuse, and White Plains, NY. The White Plains office is specifically seeking students interested in labor & employment law. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
