Job Responsibilities:
- Participate in a 10-week, full-time internship program.
- Engage in client interviewing, drafting memos, and conducting legal research for cases and community issues.
- Work with community groups and assist in designing community education seminars.
- Conduct in-depth research on substantive law topics.
- Create legal resources for client or staff use.
- Collaborate with mentor attorneys and other advocates and staff within the organization to support critical legal services for underserved individuals and families.
Education and Experience Information:
- The program is open to law students.
- The program begins with a multi-day orientation to expose students to major legal issues faced by low-income individuals and the advocacy skills needed to assist in these cases.
Salary Information:
- The organization may offer a modest living expense stipend to summer law clerks, contingent on funding.
- The organization may assist law clerks in pursuing public interest law foundation grants or work-study funds.
- The organization supports law clerks seeking externship credit in lieu of funding.
Additional Information:
- The program runs from May 26 through July 31, 2026.
- Law clerks will be placed in various offices, including Auburn, Chico, Eureka, Redding, Sacramento, Ukiah, Vallejo, and Woodland, as well as with specific projects in Sacramento.
- Each law clerk will receive guidance from a mentor attorney throughout the summer.
