The FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection is currently seeking highly motivated second-year law students for our summer law clerk program. As a law clerk, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of consumer protection issues and gain valuable experience in the field of law. Our program is small, with typically eight clerks, allowing for a fully integrated experience and meaningful assignments with significant responsibility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with each of BCP’s divisions throughout the summer
- Draft pleadings, discovery requests and responses
- Appear at hearings and depositions with Bureau attorneys
- Attend meetings with parties and their outside counsel
- Lead interview calls and summarize findings through written reports
- Review documents and research legal issues
- Be paired with an attorney mentor
Eligibility:
- Unpaid position
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must have completed two years of law school
- Must be continuing in legal studies in the fall semester following the clerkship

The #***#'s Bureau of Consumer Protection offers a unique opportunity for second-year law students to gain valuable experience in consumer protection law through its Summer Law Clerk Program. This program is designed for highly motivated individuals who are interested in working on consumer protection issues and are looking to enhance their legal skills.
With a mandate to protect consumers against unfair, deceptive, or fraudulent practices, the Bureau of Consumer Protection enforces various consumer protection laws and trade regulation rules. This includes investigating individual companies and industries, litigating in federal court, and educating consumers and businesses. As a law clerk, you will have the opportunity to work with each of BCP's divisions, including Advertising Practices, Enforcement, Financial Practices, Marketing Practices, and Privacy and Identity Protection.
The program is small, typically consisting of eight clerks, which allows for a fully integrated experience and meaningful assignments with significant responsibility. You will have the chance to draft pleadings, attend hearings and depositions with Bureau attorneys, and lead interview calls and summarize findings through written reports. You will also have the opportunity to work closely with an attorney mentor and gain valuable insights into the field of consumer protection law.
To be eligible for the program, you must be a U.S. citizen and have completed two years of law school. The position is unpaid, but law clerks typically work for at least eight weeks, and up to twelve weeks. If you are interested in applying, please email bcplawclerk@ftc.gov.
