I just received the most beautiful keychain I have ever seen in my life.
(I received my admissions packet in Brooklyn. I got in in the last wave)

I may be in California, but if I get home tonight and I don't find a packet, I'll be a bit disappointed. Also maybe annoyed with you. Mostly jealous. Why must you taunt us.mdnyc wrote:I just received the most beautiful keychain I have ever seen in my life.

Re: Harvard C/O 2019
Hi! Current 2L here. Just posted this in the applicants thread... and then realized I suck at TLS / this is probably the better place.
I know it's a bit early, but my roommate is graduating this year and I'm looking for someone to move into her room! If anybody is interested, PM me. Some details are below, but I'm happy to send pictures or show you the place if you're coming for ASW.
Harvard University Housing apartment in Botanic Gardens. It's a two-bedroom apartment with a large living room and separate kitchen. All of the furniture in the common areas is mine, so would be ideal for someone who doesn't have or want to buy a bunch of new furniture. (The apartment also comes with a climate-controlled storage unit in the basement that would accommodate any extra stuff.) It's a half-mile walk to HLS, basically equidistant to Harvard and Porter Squares.
Technically the lease starts in July, but my current roommate is staying here to take the bar and would love to take that first month's rent off your hands / let you move in closer to the start of school. It's $1266 per person per month, and includes wifi, electricity, etc. Harvard takes care of all the repairs and maintenance. I'm female, if that matters, and try my best to get the fuck out of Cambridge as much as possible, so I'm not home all that much.
Thanks!!

Does anyone know how long it takes to receive the admission package? It's been about 2 weeks since I got the call, so I am just wondering if it's normal? Thank you!!

Re: Harvard C/O 2019
Did anyone take their "student" call last night?? Mine was AMAZING it made me want to go to Harvard so bad. They obviously put effort into matching us - my caller was exactly me (almost to a weird extent). Knowing there are people at Harvard that I would be connect with is very comforting, and she was faced with the same decision re:scholarships and chose H and never looked back!

Weird, I would just call H. I got mine fairly soon after the call, maybe about 1 weekish.pocky wrote:Does anyone know how long it takes to receive the admission package? It's been about 2 weeks since I got the call, so I am just wondering if it's normal? Thank you!!

If you read above, a lot of us just received the packages yesterday. How many of you here plan to attend ASW? If so, I'm down to split the cost of hotel or air bnb with some of you. Whichever is cheapest. If only HLS students would house us like previous years......

Re: Harvard C/O 2019
Part of it likely has to do with their need to fill a larger class than Y or S, and I think their yield rate is lower than Y, though somebody else ITT probably knows better than I do about those factors. As far as you not being a terribly attractive applicant (JS & co obviously didn't agree!), I don't think that matters as far as how hard they'll recruit you. Once they've let you in they want you to attend and its in their best interest to make sure you do.lunixer wrote:Hi all! Only just realized this thread existed when I went to the "applicants" thread to ask this question.
So, does anybody have any idea why Harvard recruits so hard? It's crazy! I'm getting like 3-4 emails per day talking about how great the school is, offering me to connect with profs, etc. Haven't gotten a student call yet, but I'm sure it's coming. And it's not like I'm a terribly attractive applicant -- probably not getting into Yale, and same with Stanford, if I had applied. The other schools that I have been accepted at so far haven't lobbied me with anywhere near this intensity.
Just wondering if there are any theories out there. Anyone get into Y/S so they can compare?
But I think part of it also is that H sells its size (while apologizing for it at the same time). I think the barrage of emails about different profs/clinics/organizations/students serves to support the "you can do anything at Harvard" idea. I'll admit it has impressed me. I can confirm that S recruitment so far has been nothing like H.

I would add one point: I believe the assumption that it is only about recruiting is incorrect. Hls is still in the midst of a major campaign to improve the quality of student life, and this necessarily includes engaging more with admits. While Y and S students may well have an equally positive experience, Harvard still needs to focus on it more, due to the historical bad environment there until ~15 years ago (immortalized in popular culture), the large class size, the higher student-professor ratio, and other factors.

Re: Harvard C/O 2019
Does anyone else find it odd that not all admits received the financial aid e-mail that apparently went out on the 26th? I also haven't received any contact like a student call or anything near the "3-4 emails a day" of recruitment, but I figure that kind of thing is variable. FinAid application opening up seems like an e-mail that would be standardized and sent to all admits.
FWIW also tried to create a login for the SFS portal and was not able to access it. After entering the PIN I created I got a "Sorry, that information isn’t available right now. Please contact the Financial Aid Office" message.
