i think dean derosa was extremely helpful ... but I think it is because I knew exactly what I was looking for, I put in a lot of work in researching and bidding for firms at OCI, and I made sure I met with him on a regular basis (to keep him updated on my progress; to ask about what to expect at the next callback, etc.).

I think the ONLY thing beneficial about career services was Suzanne Hess's doom-and-gloom perspective. Her pessimism prompted me to bid pretty conservatively, and I believe conservative-bidding was critical to those outside the white shoe range.

I found them to be overall pretty helpful. Though I will say that I think that their advice was a little too cookie-cutter. As somebody with an unusual background, I would have liked a little more personalized advice. It was not until I figured out what I was doing wrong on my own and tweaked my interview strategy that I started having success (0 callbacks from NY Job Fair, 5 afterwards . . . 4 from major markets). Anyway, I am really happy where I ended up, so I have no reason to complain, I just can't help but think I would have had more choices had I received different advice.

They said they're slow, usually takes them a few weeks. They also don't follow the NALP guidelines so if you get an offer you only have 2-3 weeks to make a decision.

What is the general ratio of callbacks to offers?
Anonymous User wrote:I think it would be really useful for everyone to post their number of CBs and an estimated GPA and we can see what the trend was like this year.

Up to now, we have:

4/ ~3.55
8/ ~3.55
6/ ~3.39
2/ ~3.35
2/ ~3.28
7/ ~3.5
2/ ~3.3

Who else? If you mentioned yours and it's not up here, repost.

Did you talk to career services directly? Mass mail, I'd think. Hell, go to the city you want to be in and knock on their doors with your resume, references, etc. Be dogged.

What percent of people in OCI were able to get biglaw jobs? I feel like I am the only kid at median who didn't get a biglaw job.

There are definitely others at and above median who didn't get biglaw.

I don't know why you'd expect anyone here to know the percentage that did get Biglaw at this stage in the game. Ask career services.
