150 / 3.75 - - Have a chance at Brooklyn or Rutgers?
Got a 150 on the June LSAT. GPA is 3.75 overall, I really have my heart set on Brooklyn Law, but their 25th percentile LSAT is 152. Debating on if it is a good idea to retake in September, or is it not worth retaking? Heard conflicting points on retaking the test..

There should be no conflict about your need to retake. Theres no downside.

There is absolutely no reason not to study hard and retake the test. Admissions is a numbers game. If you can improve your score, you will get into better schools (with better shots at employment) with better scholarship offers (so you will have less debt).
(It looks like you would be able to take the test in September and be able to send out applications before Thanksgiving, so you wouldn't even have to put off applying. But the advantages of retaking are great enough that it would even be worth it if you had to find something else to do for a year while you studied for the test again.)

Thanks for the responses guys. I figured it would be alright. The only thing I heard you need a good answer for is the statement you have to make as to why you took it twice. I decided only about 3 months before the test I was going to take it and I'm not sure if that sounds irresponsible to say in the statement or not, not to mention if they even base a lot of merit on the statements.

They're not going to care about the statement why you took the LSAT more than once. They only care about the score. Seriously dude, with that GPA if you can get your LSAT up you can get into way better schools than Brooklyn with $. Def retake, good luck!

I'm not usually dogmatically adherent to the retake philosophy on this site, but In your case I wouldn't even consider law school with a 150 LSAT. With your GPA you should atleast go decent regional state school and for free. The barrier for entry in your case has to be around a 155 to accomplish this, but I would shoot for way higher.

You only need a statement if you have a good reason; don't worry about it if you don't. Most schools will not care at all, because they only have to report the highest score, and that's what matters for their ranking.

You wouldn't be doing yourself justice if you didn't retake the LSAT. Truthfully. Like study your ass off bro, day and night and retake that LSAT. Even if you hit 165, you would change the whole landscape of what schools you can get into.

I hate to bring this up, but if you're a minority, you have a chance at CUNY. And contrary to popular belief, there are many people who score in the low-150's and pass the bar on their first attempt.mbeastcoast wrote:Got a 150 on the June LSAT. the "schools raise eyebrows at more than 1 take" is boomer advice back when schools averaged your scores. that's no longer the policy so application strategies need to change accordingly.
however, you need to really read up on what kind of law jobs are out there, what your comfortable with doing, what schools allow you to achieve those career goals, and how much debt you are comfortable with taking on to achieve those goals.
it's not as easy as "i decided to take the LSAT, now 3 months later i don't have a very good score, i think i want to brooklyn law school, i'm going to take out hundreds of thousands of dollars out in loans to make it happen."

That is not the point. Passing the bar is all well and good, but you NEED A JOB. Schools that admit 150s have horrible employment numbers. Some snowflakes will get a job, but most of the students will merely melt.L_William_W wrote:And contrary to popular belief, there are many people who score in the low-150's and pass the bar on their first attempt.

CUNY is a "public interest" law school. Many graduates work as legal aid lawyers. Anyone who kisses enough ass at CUNY is practically guaranteed a job as a public defender or a legal aid lawyer. I attended CUNY and I personally know people who scored in the low-150's, passed the bar, and got jobs. And CUNY emphasizes undergraduate GPA as much as the LSAT score.

Retake, and there is no question about it. The difference in the quality of their schools "recruiting" me with a 158 vs my initial 153 is day and night. I'm retaking again for additional scholarship$$ purposes in September - I'm not leaving any retakes on the table and have spoken to admissions people before who agree.
