Barrister's Ball...do I have to?
The title's a bit misleading because I'm not going either way (it's tonight). I'm just wondering if I'm missing out on anything.

No, went to mine, hated it. If yours is anything like mine, no one will remember if you were there or not

I think these are the types of things that are worth going to at least once while you're in school. But probably only once for novelty's sake.

If you don't go, you may end up a social reject. This moment could spark a chain of events which may ultimately leave you in complete and utter dejection. Picture yourself sitting in a 35 dollar motel in Kansas City, Missouri chugging a 10 dollar bottle of vodka, struggling to decide whether to end it all using a worn steak knife you managed to steal from a local diner.
The decision is now, man. You have a choice, and you have to weigh the implications.

Didn't go to mine. Hasn't had any negative repercussions. And considering some of the stories I've heard from that night, I am glad I didn't go.

If yours is anything like mine, you're not missing anything. I had a lot more fun pregaming than I did at the actual event. It was just an awkward drunken highschool prom-ish party with questionable food and bad drink specials. I guess I'm glad I went, if only because now I can say I've been and know what it's about, but I'll probably skip it next year.

Only in law school, do people wonder if they are missing out by not going to something

Tickets have officially sold out for my 3L Barrister's Ball, bringing my streak to three unattended BB's.
No noticeable social side effects.

No one will ever sit with you at lunch if you don't go to law school prom.

I'd recommend going once just to experience it and see what it's all about...

Is it acceptable to go without a date?

I've never heard of any negative consequences from a person skipping law prom. Attending, however, has lead to hospitalization, arrest, expulsion and pregnancy. You've chosen wisely.

Re: Barrister's Ball...do I have to?
At our barrister's ball in the fall there was some dude outside throwing up and laying in it and was eventually taken away by an ambulance. I had a great time though. Our spring fling was last night but I decided to skip it because I've been feeling like I'm getting sick. Skipping it isn't something to worry about, at all.

Thanks to UC Davis though, it looks like schools have been taking steps to make sure that such parties are substantially less fun.IAFG wrote:I've never heard of any negative consequences from a person skipping law prom.
