Capitalize school?
When someone says "the School, the Law School, or the University," should these be capitalized?
For example - "The University of BLANK Law school is 'whatever,'" and then in another sentence you mention the school again by referring to it as "the University, the School, etc." These should be capitalized, correct?

Re: Capitalize school?
I looked at the schools website and saw how each one referred to itself and copied that.
And, unfortunately, some refer to themselves in multiple ways....
Look for the best, or most similar context to what you will be doing.

Use full name whenever you mention school or an acceptable short cite. "I was interested in Michigan Law" or "Michigan", don't capitalize in a general reference, "I knew I wanted to go to law school. Never do the "the University" thing.

I know that you would never capitalize here: "I knew I wanted to go to law school." However, would capitalize here: "I knew I wanted to go to the Law School (or simply School)?"Cupidity wrote:Use full name whenever you mention school or an acceptable short cite. Say, "I knew I wanted to go to University of Virginia School of Law"

This is what I would prefer to use, but if I've already said the same of the school a couple times already, it sounds funny. This is why I just want to say "School" instead of writing out the entire name four times.Cupidity wrote:Say, "I knew I wanted to go to University of Virginia School of Law"

Do you think it would be alright to use those abbreviations without adding Law, Law School, or School of Law right after them?2014 wrote:Abbreviate to U.Va. then or UM/UMich or whatever they refer to themselves as.

I am certain schools aren't really going to care as long as you are basically grammatically correct.

Rich Rod is scUM's head coach. He can't even get away with sneaking extra hours into practice.2014 wrote:That's creative!nphsbuckeye wrote:scUM.2014 wrote:Abbreviate to U.Va. then or UM/UMich or whatever they refer to themselves as.

FWIW, I have nothing against scUM, per se (however, I loate Walmart Wolverines), and would like to be an alum of OSU and UM.

Re: Capitalize school?
Do people really say things like: "I have wanted to go to ________ since I was a young child"?
It's so cliched and there are a bunch of different ways to drop this bit of info.
