Bad cycle?

Post by Isplitmyhead » Thu Mar 26, 2020 5:28 am

17x mid, 3.x low

Waitlisted at every T14 except HYS. Ghosted by T14-T20 and had my app checked by several people with no obvious red flags. Was this a bad splitter cycle?

It's hard to tell whether your results are unexpected without knowing what the x's are in your numbers. A 172/3.05 might get you waitlisted everywhere, especially if you're K-JD, but a 174/3.4 should get offers.

It would also be helpful to know when you applied. You have a better chance applying earlier in the cycle

172 < LSAT < 176, 3.1 < GPA < 3.5

I sent everything in November. Got ghosted and waitlisted, and the people from the page on reddit aren't looking good either

Again, that's a massive range, and it's entirely possible that you're seeing WL results because it's normal. Every point on the LSAT makes a big difference, and the outcomes for people with a 3.1 GPA vs. a 3.5 GPA can also vary radically.

November isn't late, but if you sent post-Thanksgiving, it's also not early. Depending on your actual numbers, your results may make total sense. On the other hand, you might not even be a big splitter (if you have a 3.5, for example, you're barely a splitter--if you're a splitter at all--at a good chunk of the T13), which would indicate that your application did have other weaknesses. But without your actual numbers, no one can tell you whether your results are abnormal.

I agree with cav. This is a "terrible cycle, maybe touch base with your recommenders because something is tanking your app" outcome for a 176/3.5 and a "slightly unlucky but predictable, maybe retake the LSAT for a couple more points" outcome for a 172/3.1.
