I am a K-JD with a 3.55 GPA and a 170 LSAT. I am looking to maximize my chances at NYC Biglaw and wanted to know if it would make sense to apply to NYU Early Decision (I figure that Columbia would be too much of a long shot with my numbers). Although I know I run the risk of receiving no aid, I am a Queens kid and will not have to pay for housing. Thus, even though sticker tuition would be expensive, I believe I would likely be paying more in the long run at a school like UVA/Cornell/Georgetown (which I'm not even sure I would receive any aid for either). I also plan to apply to Fordham/BU/BC/GWU.
I would love to hear some feedback on how much NYU ED helps and if you think this would be a smart decision.

Fordham is a decent choice, especially while the economy's good, but you can drop those other three from your list IMO. Optimal strategy for you is to blanket the T14 (you can skip HYS and not lose any sleep over it but personally I'd still take a shot at Chicago/Columbia).NYeagle21 wrote:I am a K-JD with a 3.55 GPA and a 170 LSAT. Truly free room-and-board, if you have it, saves ED at NYU from being a completely bad decision (you're paying "only" about $220k in tuition that way!) but you'd still be leaving money on the table for little upside. If you're a lifelong New Yorker, it'll be clear from your application and that'll help signal to NYU that they're your top choice -- so the marginal value of formally declaring so is lessened in your case.

If you are set on NYC big law, do not apply to BU/GW/BC/Fordham. Your risk of striking out would be too high and your LSAT should give you better options.
I do not know what type of merit aid you would receive from NYU given your numbers. My advice would be to apply to many schools in the T13 and see what is the most feasible financially. You can negotiate if you have been admitted to multiple peer schools. There is no need to ED, any advantage admissions wise is not worth forgoing scholarship funds. Law school will always be there, if you do not receive an acceptable offer this cycle you can sit out a year.
