What Are My Chances at UVA (Already Submitted an ED App)?

Post by YourPossiblePasts23 » Mon Sep 30, 2019 8:56 pm

Hello All,

First time posting on here. Curious what you think my chances are at UVA ED. As mentioned, the application has already been submitted. Some more details:

- 162;3.97/non-URM/non-traditional

- I was waitlisted last year at UVA and rode the waitlist till the very end of the cycle (submitted multiple LOCIs; visited the school and took a tour/spoke with an Admissions Committee member)

- Resubmitted my application with two new letters of recommendation and a "Why UVA" essay that touches on what I've been up to since having last applied.

I would be beyond elated to be accepted at UVA. It's such a remarkable law school on so many levels, especially after having seen it in person. Unfortunately, retaking the LSAT is not an option anymore--I have taken it numerous times and studied for it diligently for a considerably long time (improved nearly 20 points from my diagnostic).

Thanks!

Very slim.

Your post indicates that you know what's holding you back (LSAT). How many times have you taken the test, and how have you prepared for it?

Additionally, it's not clear why you've gotten hyper-focused on UVA. Why aren't you considering other schools?

Five times. I prepared for it by taking a prep course and studying on my own for a lengthy period with multiple publishers' materials.

UVA is my dream school for many reasons. Job placement, location, collegial environment, to name just a few things.

As a non-URM with a 162, the entire T13 is unlikely. If you can get a few more points on the LSAT you will probably be able to get into at least a couple if not UVA.

What other schools are you going to apply to? Where do you want to work after law school and what do you want to do?

Thanks. But what about the data from myLSN? Unless I'm reading things incorrectly, it looks like 6 people were accepted to UVA with my exact stats when they applied via the ED option between Sept. and Oct. And only 1 was rejected while another was waitlisted.

I have other applications lined up in case I don't get into UVA. I will be reapplying to a number of T20 schools I was waitlisted at last cycle.

That means that only six people recorded their data on MyLSN, which is an imperfect tool for precisely that reason. There's very little data for people with your numbers because people with a near-4.0 GPA usually don't top out at a 162 LSAT.

Even if you got in this year, which seems highly unlikely, you wouldn't get a scholarship. So unless you're independently wealthy, attending law school could be financially crippling.

Why do you think you're going to get different results this time?

That's how undergrad school selection works, not law school. As you might be able to tell from my username, I have plenty of affection for the University. But UVA is not unique among law schools. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to pin all their hopes and dreams on a UVA acceptance when there are 12 other law schools of equal (or superior) quality in the US.

But most importantly, you didn't answer the big question from earlier: What do you want to do after school?

I got in with numbers very similar, 162/3.9 something. Wrote a why UVA and applied ED, so I’d say you have a shot. Of course that was just about 6 years ago, so things may have changed since then. Good luck!
