URM/Military/Engineer/Splitter

Post by daRealDeal » Thu Jul 28, 2016 1:53 pm

How you all doing. I think my situation is different enough to warrant a posting. I'm looking to get into a T-14 law school, but I'm also looking for a dose of reality so feel free to lay it on me. I am hispanic and I was born as a US citizen abroad in Lima, Peru. I don't really know if that makes me a URM, but thats my background. My UG GPA is 3.2 and I walked away with a double major in electrical engineering and mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I interned at a mining company overseas while attending my University and worked in corporate finance. I am currently a Captain in the United States Marine Corps and have served as a HUMIT officer for my entire career and I've served overseas. My LSAT score is 177. Now I know I am definitely a splitter, how badly will my low gpa affect me? Does my stem background at all make up for the low gpa? Do my softs really help me at all? What are my chances at anything in the T-14. I've always had a dream for Harvard, but is it even worth applying? Let me know what you all think.

I'm pretty sure you're guaranteed T14 with 3.2 and 177. I think even some of the T6 may be possible (I hear NYU is relatively splitter friendly; I don't think Yale is possible but you never know).

Haha. Is this a troll thread?

ETA If it's not then here's my take. Being military didn't really affect my cycle at all. Some people say it does for them. But a 3.2 and 177 are not bad numbers. Plenty of non URM people here got scholarships at CCN with that GPA and a lower LSAT. Find out if you're URM because that changes everything.

Are you eligible for the GI Bill?

I am, but there is a possibility of having the Marines pay for school through the funded law program. Either way I'm not overly concerned with paying for law school, I saved a lot in anticipation for it.
