T6 Pipedreams? Even NYU??
Hey all, feeling kind of down in the dumps, and I'm wondering if it's even worth taking the LSAT. I've always wanted to be a lawyer, and I've always wanted to go to A top law school, specifically NYU for proximity reasons. I ended up with a 3.59 and a diagnostic 154. I know I can work to get a better score, but the GPA is killing me and crushing my confidence. Let me know what you think.

Anything is possible. Shoot for a 180 and let the chips fall where they may.
Good luck!

Your GPA isn't that bad, and if you crush the LSAT you can definitely get T6. But even if you don't get a 175+ LSAT score, you will wind up with plenty of great options. Try not to allow yourself to be too rankings obsessed, it will only make you miserable. Good luck! You've got this.

You're GPA isn't terrible. It's low for T6, but by no means unheard of (at or about the 25% for 8 of the T14 schools), and if you knock the LSAT out of the park it is very manageable. A 154 isn't a terrible starting place. Personally I increased over 20 points from my diagnostic, and people around here have done much more, so it's definitely doable.

Schools are desperate for high-scorers, such that your GPA shouldn't hold you back. Your LSAT score will determine where you end up.
My diagnostic was 151 and my final score was 170.

This. Your GPA does not preclude you from getting T6, though you are on the lower side. A great LSAT score will certainly help. But Hilde hit the nail on the head. Don't focus on the rankings, focus on getting to a school that will help you to achieve your goals and that makes sense financially. Good luck OP! Tons of people on here had big jumps from their diagnosticsHildegard15 wrote:Your GPA isn't that bad, and if you crush the LSAT you can definitely get T6. You can get into CUNY and Rutgers with those scores. You're a borderline candidate for Brooklyn Law School.TrunksFan1 wrote:Hey all, feeling kind of down in the dumps, and I'm wondering if it's even worth taking the LSAT. I got into Columbia and NYU with a lower GPA than that and was waitlisted at Chicago and Harvard (as a K-JD). It is possible to get into a T-6, it will just take a lot of hard work on the LSAT.TrunksFan1 wrote:Hey all, feeling kind of down in the dumps, and I'm wondering if it's even worth taking the LSAT. If you've always wanted to be a lawyer then focus on what that means to you. There are any number of successful lawyers out there who neither scored well on the LSAT nor went to a ranked school, let alone a T6. I worked for and with at least a dozen lawyers this summer who have achieved extraordinary success without having gone to a "top law school." I expect a barrage of comments that will point out the thousands and thousands of graduates from poorly ranked law schools who are jobless- those comments have real merit and cannot be overlooked. There is everything right with trying to go to a school that will maximize your employment outcomes, and there is A LOT wrong with shouldering 6 figures worth of debt to become a lawyer for the sake of becoming one- but understand that becoming a lawyer and attending T6/NYU are distinct goals.TrunksFan1 wrote:Hey all, feeling kind of down in the dumps, and I'm wondering if it's even worth taking the LSAT. Hopefully you will have an excellent LSAT score and will go wherever you want- but if your primary goal is to become a lawyer, then regardless of how well you score you will certainly have the opportunity to become one. Whether it's worth it in the end will be an entirely personal decision for you to consider.

I'd like to echo what other have said. You can absolutely get into the T6 with your GPA and a good LSAT score. It will probably take 3-6 months of prep, but if you really want your dream, you have to work for it. My diagnostic was a 151. Took that test about a month ago and already close to hitting the 160s. So I'm almost half way there!
Get some good prep books, every LSAT test you can, and prep away. The dream can be yours if you want.

I improved 23 points over my diagnostic on my first take, and prepped higher. You got this man.
And your GPA with a good LSAT score will give you some options regardless if it's NYU or not.

Definitely don't be discouraged by a low diagnostic score. I went from low 150s to 173.
