Question about high GPA from Below Average School
Hello,
I've been browsing these forums for a few days now and have found the advice on here very helpful, so thanks for that!
One question I have not seen addressed here (though I'm sure it has come up somewhere, but I cannot find it): How much do law schools care about the prestige/academic rating of your undergraduate institution?
I ask because I have a near perfect GPA from a less-than-stellar state school, but I realize that in reality my high GPA does not really match up to an Ivy applicant with a comparable GPA. (Not to knock state schools or low-rated schools in general - I'm very proud of my alma mater and others should be too; I just worry about its reception among T14 schools.)
Thanks!
P.S. Planning to take a prep test this week and a real test in September, so I may be back once I have my score!

Coming from a top UG can help you marginally(but won't help you much) and having a high gpa from a bad school is better than a low gpa from a top school. Your GPA/LSAT will be what matters most at the end of the day

You're much better off with a high GPA from a low ranking school than you are with a low GPA from a high ranking school. Do well on the LSAT and all law schools will be possible for you.

Re: Question about high GPA from Below Average School
both posters said a high GPA from a bad school is better than a low GPA from a good school, which is correct. Going one further: I'd say a 3.9 from Idaho State is better than even a 3.75 from Princeton. It's a numbers game.

I would agree. I think the only time the school comes into play is if GPA is tied between two applicants

Agree with the others. I used to fret about this... and then my friend with a 170/3.5 from Princeton had much worse outcomes than a friend with a 172/4.06 from a middling state school. Still T14, but Duke/Virginia v. Stanford/Harvard.
