3.0 gpa 142 lsat chances to get in McGeorge? anybody Forum

Please try not to make me feel too bad. I am studying as much as I can with my work schedule. I am a BSc graduate, so reading comprehension and logical reasoning were never my forte. On top of that, english is my third language. I have always been passionate about the law, so I would really appreciate your insight in this matter. My constant practice test score on the LSAT has been a 142, the highest I have scored is a 148. And I'm going to be honest with you guys my first LSAT score (february) was a 137. I just want an honest opinion for McGeorge specifically and whether I should take the JUNE LSAT or withdraw and study for the next LSAT in october.

My thinking is that if you do not have a good command of the English language needed for the LSAT how in heavens will you get through law school and practice? The language only gets more challenging.

I am never one to try to discourage people from following their dreams. However, I think you should take some time and seriously consider whether this is the right path for you. You say that you do not like/aren't good at reading comprehension and logical reasoning. Unfortunately, the LSAT tests those skills for a reason -- most of what a lawyer does is reading very dense cases and documents and then making logical inferences from them. If that is something you struggle with, you will have a very difficult time as a lawyer.

To answer your question, it will be difficult for you to get into McGeorge with those numbers. The median LSAT is nearly ten points higher than what you are currently scoring.

Take some time and seriously consider this decision. If you do decide that you still want to go to law school, you need to change your approach and commitment to studying and definitely retake the LSAT. You should not take the June exam.

You mention you work full time now. What is your job right now? What makes you want to leave it?

OP first off I agree with the commenters before me that you shouldn't go to law school. If you are doing this badly on the LSAT you will probably struggle a lot there. If you are passionate about the law there's plenty of other ways to go about it without law school. You have a great advantage over many other people in the workforce by knowing English (granted it's not your first language) and two other languages. That makes you super employable assuming you have good social skills. You don't have to be a lawyer to work with the law, and it's definitely not worth the stress, uncertainty, and cost of going to a weak law school.

Basically what everyone else said is what you should follow and consider. Take some time off to think about whether you truly want to be a lawyer or not. If you come to realize that you really do, study your ASS OFF for the LSAT and kill it when you're ready.

While the LSAT doesn't directly translate to success in law school, I'm sure there's some general correlation. So, while someone who got a 165 could still do better in law school than someone who got a 175, I would think that getting a 137 (which is 1/3 of the questions correct, and 8th percentile) implies some lack of critical thinking required for law school. This isn't meant be an insult, but just something to think about. The type of reasoning the LSAT requires is a lot of similar reasoning that law school will require.
