3.9 / 175 + Military

Post by glitchfire » Tue May 17, 2016 6:04 pm

Hi all,

GPA: 3.9
LSAT: 175 (Practice test)...would also be interested to see what my chances would be at 170.
Military: 4 years as a Surface Warfare Officer in the Navy. Commissioned through OCS.
Undergrad: Top 20 (From what I've gathered, this does not seem to matter much.)

I figure I have a good chance at all I apply for with the exception of Y & S. How would I do at Y/S?

Thanks

Thunder up :P

Take the LSAT first and then get back to us. If you actually do pull off a 175+ score, your chances at Y/S are pretty good.

With a 170, S is still relatively attainable but Y is almost certainly off the table.

But you need an actual LSAT score for any advice you'll get itt to be useful.

If you pull a 175+, your chances at YS are better than "pretty good." With a 3.9, 175, AND military boost, I'd be surprised if you didn't get at least one of YS. You'd be just as fine with a 170, honestly. YS would be unlikely, but with a full GI Bill, CCN (and very possibly H) are more than solid options.

I have military experience, similar undergrad, similar LSAT, and lower GPA (stats in profile) and performed about as well as one would expect just based on my numbers. My lsn profile is the same username.

That being said, make sure to do well on the LSAT. If you can get in to a school, GI Bill and YRP are great deals. I just got my breakdown for this upcoming year and it's like 88K in benefits JUST FOR THIS YEAR.

Hey quick question for you guys. Since it appears both of you did your minimum service obligation and got out, when did you take your LSAT? After undergrad/before BOLC (or your branch equivalent) or after you got out?

I took mine about 6 months before I got out. I was in command at the time. It sucked. I totally should have taken it during BOLC. I had soooooo much free time that I wasted partying. Meh, I ended up okay, and I got to party through BOLC.

Damn so you prepped for the LSAT while still in company command and you pulled a 176? Yeah you did more than just okay then, well done haha.

I've been planning to study for/take the LSAT before BOLC, thinking I really wouldn't want to come back and study for the thing 4-5 years after undergrad. But if I did that, I would be locking myself to the minimum service obligation and getting out immediately. Decisions decisions...

Also my bad for kinda hijacking your post OP.

So are you planning to stay in until you get a command? If you are then probably hold off, because that'll mean more than 5 years for sure. If not, then take it.

I got a few months of command time because my CO was under investigation for stuff. Otherwise I would not have.
