Re: 174 LSAT/3.95 GPA/Academic Dishonesty
If the school opted not to treat this as academic dishonesty, why on earth would you elect to?

^^
Seriously. What on on earth would be your gameplan here? There is a huge difference hiding something that matters and making a big issue out of something the school itself didn't make an issue out of. Just leave it alone.
EDIT: Is there any record of this for you? If you were never named on anything, then I stand by my advice.

Of course you shouldn't say anything, you doofus. Academic dishonesty is legit bad. From your description they have ZERO (0) (zero) (none) ways of finding out about your Spanish scheme, because it's not on your record. They're not gonna call up your Spanish professor and be like, "Hey man, we got this dude applying, and we wanna be completely sure that he's legit."
Just take it as a lesson learned and move on, regardless of how embarrassed you feel.
EDIT: I would also delete this thread.

Don't go to law school if you have a conscience. Only disclose what you mandatorily must, and only after you first try and spin it off in your favor.
You weren't individually named, and it isn't on your record? - Didn't happen.

I mean, kind of. It didn't sound like he was ever charged or punished for academic dishonesty by his school. So why tell people about what little that did happen? I think disclosing it on an application would make it seem like a way bigger deal than it actually was.Iwanttolawschool wrote:Don't go to law school if you have a conscience. 1. If you disclose, it will hurt you. It might even prevent you from getting in to any of them. Applying to HYS as a K-JD is already a huge uphill battle and you'd be giving them a reason to say no.
2. Don't disclose. My reading of those C&F provisions is that you don't have to disclose.

Black's Law Dictionary states a "finding" of law to be "a determination by a judge, jury, or administrative agency of a fact supported by the evidence in the record, usually presented at the trial or hearing. Were you "charged" with academic misconduct. Did your academic file ever contain a notation about the incident?Rebel13 wrote:I feel like the wording of the character and fitness questions in the applications is such that it suggests you should disclose academic misconduct even if it wasn't formally charged. Maybe I should just not say anything though?
For example here is Harvard's:
At any educational institution, have you ever been found responsible for academic misconduct or are any charges pending?
Columbia:
Have you ever been on academic probation or subjected to disciplinary action for scholastic or other reasons by any college, university, graduate school, or professional school you have attended? This should include matters that have been expunged. In addition to attaching a written explanation in the "Attachments" section of the application, kindly have the Dean or administrative officer in charge of student records forward a detailed explanation of the incident.
