3.5 GPA / 180 LSAT, Non-URM

Post by Herostratus » Thu Mar 24, 2016 11:14 pm

My freshman year first semester I bombed a class and had a GPA of 2.8. Since then my GPA has been going up solidly each semester, and I've been getting 3.8s in recent semesters. My overall GPA though is still only 3.5. If I take two years off for some WE, do I have any chance at HYS?

I think you'd have a shot at Harvard.

Stanford and Yale are going to be lonnnnnnnnnng shots, but hey, you miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Yes. Also, your 2 year gap would be sufficient but not necessary for admission.

Edit: My advice is for H. Idk about YS

Yeah I was thinking about applying this cycle and seeing what happens. If I do I'll come back and update for any other super splitters out there.

For the record there was someone last cycle who got H with your exact same numbers. You can check the class of '18 applicant thread if you want to check. Definitely apply widely

Do you have a good life story for not doing well the first couple of semesters? Could help you. What kind of work experience are you considering?
Congrats on your score.

Yeah I've got some verifiable reasons for why my GPA started out low and has gone way up since then, so I'm hoping they'll weight my GPA in later semesters more heavily. I'm looking at some legal assistant positions, but it could also end up being in fundraising. Will that make a big difference?

I highly doubt it. You'll learn things in either job.

Retake a 180? Are you kidding me lol

Personally I know someone who've bombed everything in the first semester of freshman year (several Bs) but end up in YLS. She switched major after first semester and got straight As.

Well the only thing better than a 180 is TWO 180s...You could legit be the first person ever to have two 180s, so I say retake.

Robin Singh has twelve perfect scores and Dave Hall has three.
