URM - MA 161/3.6 chances?

Post by CAJOLER » Fri Oct 23, 2015 5:26 pm

After PT-ing in between 165-169, I scored a disappointing 161 on October. I will be retaking in December, but let's assume I don't improve. As I stand now, what are my chances:

BU
BC
WASH U
Georgetown
UCLA
USC
UT - Austin
Emory

I would prefer to avoid as much debt as possible, and yes, I am Mexican (and a citizen). As a side note, should I wait until I receive my December score or apply now? I've heard mixed messages.

Thanks guys!

Thank you for your reply! What do you think chances of scholarship money at Georgetown/lower T-14 with 167? That was my PT average and, hopefully, I can transfer that into the December LSAT.

MA male with similar numbers (3L now). What are your goals for post-grad (career plans)? I would blanket the t-14. If you are ok with working public interest or in CA, I might throw UC Irvine in there.

Opt into CRS through LSAC and politely email each school asking for a fee waiver. I think almost all of them sent me one. Otherwise, it would have been too expensive to apply to all of them for me.

I think at least one of USC or UCLA is likely.

Ah, a fellow MA male!

If you don't mind disclosing, what were your numbers/where do you go now? I am reluctant to blanket T-14 without higher score, to be honest. But I am retaking in December. I am seeking public interest (not biglaw), and yes, CA is on certainly on my list (particularly So Cal). I suppose my goal, at this point, is to cast a very wide net and negotiate offers thereafter. Ultimately, I would like to avoid as much debt as possible while, of course, attending a school with strong job prospects.

Thank you so much for your reply!

@ eaternation: Are your comments based on OP's actual LSAT score of 161 or projected score of 167 ?

With 167 USC or UCLA are verrrrry likely (w/ good $$). With a 161, I think at least one will likely bite. I had similar numbers.

Fellow MA-male? Up nahth, we call you Mass-holes. :p

But again, as others have said, with your numbers you two are likely admits for BC, Emory, BU, and have some chance at lower t14s.
