Hi,
I wanted to thank TLS for everything I've learned these past 5 years: it's just been amazing! I've been on this forum since my freshman year of college and all the information provided here has just been tremendous.
I just got my score back and I got a modest 168 (from 163). I have a 3.99GPA and I think I am going to retake for the last time in December just for the hell of it and maybe finally crack into the 170's.
Now, I am still going to apply to the lower T-14's because I think I have a good chance at those (especially Georgetown and Cornell). I am an international student but got my degree in the United States. As far as softs go:
- Eboard members of many clubs
- Teaching Assistant
- Conferences, etc.
- I have a job at a nonprofit
- Started a business that's quite successful with my dad
- Classic story of an immigrant: moved from Eastern Europe to Western Europe due to ethnic cleansing. Moved to the US just because...
- Muslim (I don't know if that really helps... haha)
- (Extremely rare disease and I speak 3 languages)
I think I have a pretty strong application except for that LSAT, but I was wondering if I could expect any sort of scholarship from UPENN and down. And also, what I could expect from CCN and up.
Thank you all again for the incredible help these past years

Unfortunately, your soft's are very very typical (with the exception of starting a business, though that is still by no means extraordinary). So, don't expect to outperform your numbers.Egzon wrote:Hi,

In terms of diversity - again, it's a good story, but you're not getting a boost out of it.
Your numbers are very strong. A 3.99/168 will get you in plenty of places, with some very solid, and even some possible full rides, scholarship offers at the lower end of the t-14 and right outside (UCLA/USC/VANDY/WUSTL).
If I were you, I'd expect 75%--100% scholarships where your LSAT is above the 75% percentile. However, a retake is probably your best bet... 4 or 5 questions more and you're looking at the possibility of HYS (prob just H) and named scholarships at Columbia (though, prob not the Hamilton).
If you break a 173, you're looking at the Hamilton/Ruby.

Thanks. The LSAT has been a hassle for almost a year now: English isn't my first language so it's been pretty difficult to adjust to the difficulty of the test. I'm really feeling burnt out: I've been trying to study for the past week or so, and I just cannot do it... I'm willing to put in the work though so we'll see how these next few weeks go.gnomgnomuch wrote:Unfortunately, your soft's are very very typical (with the exception of starting a business, though that is still by no means extraordinary). As far as my softs go, I actually thought they were, even though not extremely unique, at least special but I understand that it wouldn't help me outperform my numbers.
I'm an international student (not american) so it's pretty much biglaw or nothing. I wonder if I have any chance at YHS...

Re: 3.99 -- 168 -- softs/diversity -- Scholarships?
H is definitely on the table if you can break 170. I wouldn't hold out hope for Y/S, though. At least not without a 173+.
You have a good shot at all three of CCN as-is, though probably not with any significant money. Penn is stingy as hell, and unless their median drops to 167, I wouldn't expect much from them. If UVA repeats what they did this past cycle, you could have a chance at a Dillard. The rest of the lower-T14 are obviously possibilities, but other than Northwestern, it's hard to predict money from a lot of these schools. If you don't have any real geographic preference, just ride out the cycle and take the best offer.
As the previous poster said, don't put too much weight on softs like that. Definitely won't hurt you, but don't plan on anything beyond your GPA/LSAT.

Thanks. I was going to apply to all T14 and a couple of others (Vanderbilt, UCLA, etc.), hoping that I'll be able to negotiate some money. I feel like my chance at Columbia is pretty low since theire 25th percentile is 168 but my GPA might help me there. I'm probably gonna retake even though my heart is really not in it anymore, in hopes of maybe getting into Harvard.White Dwarf wrote:H is definitely on the table if you can break 170.
