Do law schools like STEM degrees?

Post by jmcdaniel15 » Tue Sep 15, 2015 12:08 pm

It's been awhile since I posted anything on this forum. While I'm not on here to ask about my chances into Harvard like how I did when I was just CC freshman I do want to ask a different question. I'm now a junior at a 4 year university and majoring in computer science. I know it doesn't matter what you studied as an undergrad, but I've read that law schools especially the T14 are leaning towards liking stem degrees because there more rigorous. Again I know it doesn't matter what major you study in and I'm not asking will it improve my chances, but is this true in the admissions process?

I know it doesn't matter what you studied as an undergrad
I know it doesn't matter what major you study in
You want to know if schools prefer (i.e. give an admissions boost) applicants with a STEM degree, but then say twice you're not asking about if it will help your chances (you are) and you also say twice it doesn't matter what major you study in.

So you say it doesn't matter but some applicants get a boost and others don't but you're not asking if it improves your chances.

I really dislike your wording of this question.

You may want to look into an English class with that clusterfuck of words you have there.

...just sayin'

I honestly don't think they care unless you are enrolling into a joint MD/JD, PharmD/JD, or something crazy like that. They care more about higher GPA. If you already have a STEM degree with both then great, but if you are starting out then its no secret that STEM degrees are harder academically than libarts and Bschool.

It is worth noting that you can take the Patent Bar and practice intellectual law, while other JD's with other undergrads can not though. That is worth something if it interests you.

t14 gives very little bonus for hard STEMS except maybe upenn

t14s have good employment anyways so they dont need the employment boost a STEM will likely give

however, many schools right outside the t14 like UCLA, USC, Vandy, WUSTL LOVE STEMS bc these schools dont have as good employment stats and STEMs tend to get good jobs.

I vastly overperformed my numbers with regards to $$$ for schools ranked 15-20

If you have a computer science degree, law school is one of the last common career paths you should be considering right now.

Honestly if you have a STEM degree, try taking the admissions tests for the stuff your prereqs are actually required for. IF they tell you NO, then yeah you probably have the options of JD, CPA, or MBA left in life. (in that order)

Just how I see it.

:D Also, if I was admissions, I wouldn't care if you were STEM or not. But when you improperly use the word there
