3.86/171 URM

Post by phinsfan1 » Fri Jul 17, 2015 6:22 pm

Hello, long time lurker here.

I'm particularly interested in H or S, assuming I'm granted aid. Other than that I would need a significant scholarship to get me through. Should I blanket T-14? Also what are my chances for H or S?

Here's what I offer:
- 1st Gen. college student
- URM (PR, Cuban)
- Interesting diversity statement
- Upward trending GPA
- I worked through undergrad, full-time for half, and part-time for the other half. (non-law related)
- Volunteer work and honor societies

I'm aware my softs are generally pretty weak. How much will this affect my cycle? Should I possibly retake?

I would blanket T-14. With your numbers and URM status, you could be looking at a serious, serious scholarship. You might consider retaking for even more money.

Stanford and Harvard have definitely taken URMs with weaker numbers than you in the past, but you should be aware that their max aid still leaves you roughly 120k-150k in debt, if I'm not mistaken.

Post in URM forum to see what a PR boost can do to you....I've heard that PR gets a URM boost but not as much as Mexican Americans ..( I'm not sure to what extent less than MA applicants )

+1

Several posters there are very willing to help their peers out with the application process. My reaction is that you have an impressive enough background for all schools but your numbers are on the lower side for some (pretty good within URM though). Only thing that your post did not make clear is how good your WE is. With very meticulously planned essays, including any why x addendums,I think you could get anywhere in the T-14 without a retake. A retake would help if you were hoping for a full ride somewhere in CCN for example. 2 point bump would probably do the trick as far as your stats go.
