3.2/168 Splitter

Post by ppt5 » Fri Jul 17, 2015 3:18 am

3.2 168
Looking at California schools.
Odds of getting $$$ from Irvine or getting into UCLA with ED (or any T14 for that matter).
Also any advice on which I should pick if I did get in (UCLA sticker or UCI with money)

Edit: Looking at big firm law

Any chance I'll get into UCLA or USC at all or is Irvine looking like my best option right now?

You're right at UCLA's median, and they might be looking to recover a point this year, so I think a retake might help a lot if you can even just go up 2 points. 3.2 is below 25 so lsat should really be upper 75 (170) for a good shot at UCLA money.

Irvine will offer you money, but I don't know how much, or if you should take it.

With that 3.2, pretty much any of the t14/UCLA/USC are going to be really expensive for you if you manage to sneak in with a 168. That kinda debt will require a biglaw job (which you said you want). Therefore, you should go to the school that maximizes your chances of securing a biglaw gig. Usc/ucla don't have stellar biglaw placement.

Therefore, retake for t14.

UC's and California schools in general tend to like higher GPAs, so I would not even plan on admission to those. You can throw an app to see if any bite, but do not count on it.

If you pay sticker, you will need a biglaw gig to service the debt. Chances of biglaw from either of those options assuming median class rank are slim.

I advise that you retake to make your goals achievable.

If I did retake, what kind of score would I need for T14/UCLA/USC (assuming low T14 not HYS)

You'll need to break 170. The higher the better.

172/173 is pretty much the sweet spot for most T14 splitters. Chances at all the way up to CCN (less so Chicago is TCR) and good odds at $$ for MVPN. Obviously we are speculating, but that is what most people say is ideal.

Thanks! This is exactly the kind of response I was looking for. I hadn't really considered T14 schools until after I got the 168 so it's nice to have a specific goal.

I got in (albeit it off the waitlist) at GULC with a lower GPA and LSAT in 2013.

No offense but OP said he/she would be financing through loans, which would make that an awful idea. It's clear that a re-take is in order
