splitter 3.4 172 good softs chances
hi everyone. new to this board but would greatly appreciate some feedback on potential chances.
Stats:
GPA 3.4 from a top 50 LAC
lsat 172
softs:
will start a master's at a top 3 policy/IR program (where i want to combine with a JD at a T-14) this fall
fulbright scholar
former UN intern
worked a year as a child rights advocate
i took the february lsat and got a 172. i was averaging 174-178 on my PTs with the average being 175 or 176. the reading section killed me which is why i think i got lower than my normal performance but alas, the february tests arent disclosed so i'll never know. i will be taking the october 2015 lsat in the hopes ofa few more points.
any thoughts?

You'll do well in the lower T14. myLSN doesn't seem to have a lot of info, but look at the applicant graphs for schools you're interested in on lawschoolnumbers.com and you'll get an idea of how similar applicants faired.

thanks for the feedback! it looks like one non URM guy managed harvard with a 3.4/177. not too optimistic but my fingers are crossed. i just need to see how this next lsat score will pan out.hearsay77 wrote:You'll do well in the lower T14. myLSN doesn't seem to have a lot of info, but look at the applicant graphs for schools you're interested in on lawschoolnumbers.com and you'll get an idea of how similar applicants faired.

With an increased lsat, you'll do nicely at CCN in the current environment. You can crack 175, and you should. From one splitter to another, let me say I think it'll make a meaningful difference in your cycle.
Apply early and write the essays for scholarships (goes for everybody - but especially for you, you've got good softs to talk about).

Everyone keeps talking about the current environment being bad. Why is it bad exactly and how does that affect lsat/gpa medians?dwyf wrote:With an increased lsat, you'll do nicely at CCN in the current environment. You can crack 175, and you should. its bad because if you look at the legal market, supply is greater than demand. a lot potential people scoring 170+ are just ditching the idea of law school altogether and finding a different career path that is less debt ridden and has more job security than what the current legal market is able to offer. schools still need to secure X amount of students who will bring up their GPA/LSAT numbers which translates to higher rankings in Top Law School lists which is why someone who wouldnt have been able to get into some schools 20 years ago can with more mediocre. i had to think long and hard about applying to law school and just completing my masters but for me and my career objectives, pursuing a JD/MA makes sense even if i will be paying a pretty penny.Lawdood wrote:Everyone keeps talking about the current environment being bad. Re: splitter 3.4 172 good softs chances
Echoing what OP said - I actually mean that the current environment is good, not bad, for the potential applicant. If I had applied last year, instead of 3-4 years ago (height of the application bubble), I almost certainly would have seen more money and/or acceptances at higher places. Numbers that got me into CCN were getting people into H. There are just many fewer 170+ scores out there, and for schools that want (need) to preserve those median and 75th numbers, they now have to fight harder.Lawdood wrote:Everyone keeps talking about the current environment being bad. So the medians look similar to what they did a few years ago, but top schools are shelling out more money to preserve them and/or seem to be accepting more splitters to get the mix right.
It has also lead to some lower ranked schools cutting class sizes in order to preserve medians.

You will fare fine in the lower T14. A high LSAT and low GPA is much preferable to the reverse. It actually shows that you are smart. But you might want to retake for better chances/scholarship in CCN.
P.S. Fulbright is a awesome. Congrats!

Odds are against you. They aren't too hot on splitters.atticus_finch wrote:Hey guys kind of reviving my neuroticism but what do you guys think of my chances at Boalt?
But they do like softs, so you have a chance. Wouldn't bet on it though.
