3.4/154 advice

Post by tezzeret » Wed Jul 01, 2015 8:47 pm

As title states, I pretty much blew my Lsat retake and got a 154 (my highest PT was a 161). I have an addendum for my GPA, and I have been working 2+ years since my BA. I was looking at Seton hall, Fordham, Cardozo, and Brooklyn. Do I have a shot at any of those, and perhaps even a small shot of some $$$? Or am I better off retaking the lsat a 3rd time?

Why an addendum for a 3.4? Yea, I think a retake is best.

Retake. I wouldn't write an addendum for that GPA, even if you scored a 180, unless there was a very compelling reason to do so.

You're gonna write an addendum for your 3.4 but not the 154? Yikes.

Would it really matter if I wrote an addendum for my LSAT score?

I don't follow the logic of writing an addendum for an otherwise above-average GPA, unless there was something extraneous and out of your control that significantly prevented you from obtaining a near-4.0 GPA (think SERIOUS illness). Admissions offices will not appreciate an addendum for a GPA that mirrors your performance on the LSAT. Fix your LSAT score and go from there.

for what it's worth a 3.4 is below median at some of those schools, but so is the 154. if you don't have either number at median you probably won't get in.

only your highest lsat will be relevant at these schools. if this was a question on if it's better to have a 151, 154 and 165 vs a 151 and 165, I'd say the latter is insignificantly better. in your situation you need to keep retaking until you get a 165.

you're looking at schools where you'll be paying full price, will need to be in the top quarter as an absolutely necessary condition to servicing that debt (not a sufficient one), and are going in with entering numbers that will presict you'll be in the bottom quarter (an LSAT five points below median). In extreme variances (154 against 164), the LSAT actually has significant predictive value.
