Need A Socal School! (UCLA, USC, UC Irvine) 2018
Hey guys:
I need to get into either UCLA, USC, or UC Irvine, because I want to practice in SoCal when I finish.
Currently I am waitlisted at UCLA and UC Irvine. USC is on "Committee 2nd read".
I was wondering what the chances of getting into any of the three schools are. I've heard different stats from different people on waitlist acceptances.
UCLA: I want in, because UCLA is awesome. I spent my undergrad years there.
USC: Also great, but why on earth do they take so long? It's been 4 months and I have no answer yet lol
UC Irvine: Do you think it's easier to get in from the waitlist now that they debuted at 30 on the rankings instead of the top 20, as they originally anticipated? I would like to say yes, but I could be mistaken.
Anyway, my stats are 167/3.0 (splitter). My best option at the moment is UC Davis, because it's in California (even though it's not SoCal), and they're paying about 60% of the tuition.
I would appreciate any help, thoughts, and perspectives. Thanks.

http://www.hourumd.com/?lsat=167&gpa=3. ... o&range=no
USC: 163/166/167 - 3.55/3.76/3.86
UCLA: 163/167/169 - 3.56/3.79/3.90
UCI: 162/164/166 - 3.27/3.53/3.70
With 167/3.0, it's not looking too great at USC and UCLA. I'm going to presume that you've probably written your LOCIs. Can you retake in June? It might even be helpful if you schedule a visit to these schools, and request if you are able to meet with AO in person, and try to sell yourself then. You might even ask if you can submit an extra rec? I could see you getting off the WL at UCI though.
Re: UCI, I could follow your logic that coming in at 30 can make it easier on you. But differently: They might be freaking out rn, and trying to tighten their numbers and class size even more. So idk, we are making speculations, and all we can do is speculate--nobody will really know until next year.
If you show enough interest at UCI, you might have a really good shot at getting admitted from their WL. There are good people on WLs--UCI just has to be convinced of it. I'm sure that you can do this if you really want them.
Good luck OP! Do please let us know if you are successful.

Damn, not what I wanted to hear lol. I don't plan on retaking my LSAT because I am working full time and I can't find the time to study this time as I did last summer. My 167 was also higher than most of my preptests, so I think the chance that I would score lower is a very real possibility.LawsRUs wrote:

Thank you for your help. I have written LOCIs and I will continue to do so. I'll look into the extra letters or rec as well.

Two cycles ago I was 166/3.3 and didn't get into UCLA or USC. Entirely anecdotally my impression is that the LA schools are more sensitive about GPA.

I forgot to add that it has been 5 years since I graduated with my BA. Would GPA matter less in this case? Would my work experience be weighted more heavily?

Depends on where you apply.....WE is more heavily weighted at some schools ( see NW )....but at Cali Schools, LSAT cannot overcome a weak GPA as much as it has the power to do so in other states
