My thoughts? I think you should retake and aim higher.

If you have a 3.9 you should be able to get at least a 168 with a few months of study.
HYS are within your grasp with a retake.

Ehh, that's a bit of a broad stroke. a 3.9 at a great school majoring in Chemical Engineering is entirely different than a 3.9 from State School U majoring in History.Broncos15 wrote:If you have a 3.9 you should be able to get at least a 168 with a few months of study.

What does this have to do with what you were asking? Just curious.Julio743 wrote:(Academy Awards??)

False. A 3.9 is a 3.9 in the eyes of admissions officers. It's a numbers game.sundontshine wrote:Ehh, that's a bit of a broad stroke. a 3.9 at a great school majoring in Chemical Engineering is entirely different than a 3.9 from State School U majoring in History.Broncos15 wrote:If you have a 3.9 you should be able to get at least a 168 with a few months of study.

A 3.0 from MIT in EE > 4.0 from Crappy State U in Basket Weaving.

Re: 153/3.9
I have spoken to t14 admissions officers who publicly say that is the case, but privately they really care about the GPA over anything. a 4.0 from BFnowhere CC is better for them than a 3.0 from Caltech. They will never say it publicly but will privately.reasonable person wrote:A 3.0 from MIT in EE > 4.0 from Crappy State U in Basket Weaving.

Re: 153/3.9
I feel like most of you are deliberately misreading this sentiment. I believe sundontshine's point was not that all 3.9's aren't the same in value to admissions officers, but rather, that all 3.9's are not equally predictive of a person's ability to increase their LSAT.sundontshine wrote:Ehh, that's a bit of a broad stroke. a 3.9 at a great school majoring in Chemical Engineering is entirely different than a 3.9 from State School U majoring in History.Broncos15 wrote:If you have a 3.9 you should be able to get at least a 168 with a few months of study.

That said, OP should retake. Beg, steal, or borrow $1500 and take a live course or get a tutor if you need. It will get you a far better school and save you thousands on tuition.

Retake. Do not waste your GPA on Rutgers. As others have said, HYS are within your grasp if you can improve your LSAT. Your debt will be covered at a multitude of much better ranked schools that offer much better employment statistics. Chances are you will receive multiple full ride offers from t-20 schools and most likely even a few t-14s.Julio743 wrote:I'm applying to Rutgers Newark. That's exactly the school I want to go to. Re: 153/3.9
Beg to disagree here.
Difficulty of coursework/institution/major does matter...but probably if anything more so on the Splitter candidates
If you had two candidates with the same LSAT ( 168+) at a reach school where they are near the bottom 25% GPA and one had a 3.5 in Engineering and the other has a 3.6 in basketweaving...the 3.5 has a better shot
Irrelevant in this case as a 3.9 has a very solid chance everywhere expect Y which is a black box for anyone...the LSAT is what is holding OP back from an amazing cycle

Re: 153/3.9
All of you are missing the point of sundontshine's post.
S(he) is not saying that a 3.9 in engineering from MIT is vastly different than a 3.9 in Political Science from Shitty State University in terms of admissions to law school.
(s)He is saying that the person with a 3.9 in engineering from MIT has quite possibly a vastly different level of intellectual ability than a student with a 3.9 in political science from Shitty State University, and (s)he was saying this in response to the comment that if one is able to get a 3.9, one is likely able to raise their LSAT score to 168 or higher.
