If you mean what I think you mean you don't have serious softs. They won't help you punch above your numbers.
So, whatever http://www.mylsn.info says you'll get should be pretty dead on.

As the other response said, your softs aren't special enough to make you outperform your numbers at all. see http://mylsn.info/xdu1ab/ for an idea of what you can expect. Looks like you'd get into most of the lower T14, with some but not much money.
However, the correct answer is still to retake; with a 172+ You have a great chance at Harvard or a full scholarship at a T14, which is a far better outcome than anything you can get now in the T14

You could have internship at McKinsey, Goldman Sachs, Facebook, and the White House and you're still going to need to retake for your goal.

With a 4.0 from a top 5 undergrad, if you go to whatever law school will take you with a 166, you are making a horrible, horrible choice. Go get a job.

The world is cruel for lots of people. It's not really for people with 4.0s from top undergrads.

love this. also:Mixednuts wrote:I would really hate to retake the LSAT.

looks like you stand a decent shot, at least at nyu, as is. i'm a bit less cynical in your case, as your softs sound impressive. however, a retake would clearly benefit you tremendously. it would also open up HYS, if you're interested.
if money doesn't matter, you should feel free to apply now. just don't expect success with that LSAT.
(yes, the world is cruel.)

Pretty sure the answer to this is no, but do consider that you'll have to write a completely new personal statement and all the supplementary essays you do will need to be re-done also, which is a huge pain.Mixednuts wrote:Thank you so much for your input.
@Ballcaps: Money doesn't matter at T5 law schools (don't want to get into details, but assume I have it paid for if I get into any of the T5).
One more question: will applying this year hurt my chances next year, assuming I get a 170-172 in June?
I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding something worthwhile to do for a year. Take the LSAT in June and apply early next cycle.

You don't have much of a shot at the T5Mixednuts wrote:Thank you so much for your input.

So how come your rich benefactor won't pay for you to attend NYU?

Also, just lol at the world being cruel because some rich kid padded his resume up and might not get to go to a "T5" law school because he can't break a 170 on the LSAT. Some people have to pay their way through school and raise a family at the same time, etc. Not everyone has the luxury of resume padding. The LSAT is like the fairest part of the whole process, it should be the biggest factor.

Yea with a 4.0 from a T5 undergrad and a 166 LSAT, I really don't think law school is much of a value add in terms of career prospects. If you try/ network hard enough, you can get an position you want in the consulting/ general business world I would think.

And which government program is it that will pay for Columbia but not NYU again?Mixednuts wrote:BigZuck wrote:Also, just lol at the world being cruel because some rich kid padded his resume up and might not get to go to a "T5" law school because he can't break a 170 on the LSAT. You see, it is because of people like you, who make unwarranted assumption and hate on everyone, that we can't have anything nice in this world. For your information, I don't have parents--yeah, that's right, I am an orphan, completely alone--and the program that would pay for T5 schools is a government-run program for people like myself. So, if you could please stop bitching about how everyone is a rich asshole and how you are the only hardworking individual on this planet, I would be eternally grateful.
Not that I endorse the above posters message, it just seems very odd that a government program would pay your full tuition based on where the school falls on a private magazine's law school rankings, which change every year.

You have to either retake or work for a couple years and reassess. It doesn't make sense to go to law school now with a 166.

I'd vote retake myself. No use limiting your options over a multiple choice test, especially if this odd program is legit. Sit out, bust ass on a retake, and get much better options. That said, you'd find admits at lower T14 as is, but with your GPA you could go to those and better schools for free if you'd just retake for a few more points.
Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.

If you're actually on this SECRET GOVERNMENT PROGRAM, you should ED to Chicago.
But you're not on a secret government program that bases its funding decisions on USNWR's arbitrary rankings, so it doesn't matter.
