In order to give you advice on what to change up with your lsat studying, we need to know what you are currently doing.westave wrote:Hi fellow TLS-ers - help me decide where to apply please? 3.77/159 and retaking in December. Good softs. And if anyone has magical LSAT advice, I'll take that too because my PT score is stubbornly stuck at a 163 and not budging.

People who get stuck PTing at a score usually fall into one of two camps. Do a single PT untimed. Did your score significantly improve? If it did, then time and stress management are your biggest problems. This can be remedied by taking a ton more PTs until you speed up and are comfortable enough running at that time. This will be far more PTs than you think, just keep pushing through the plateau. If your score is still basically the same it says you need to work on fundamentals more, learn the tricks they use to get to to select the wrong answer and figure out how to compensate for them. This is where review books or a course is handy.

In a thread I made asking for help I typed out exactly what my review process was like, and a bunch of ppl chimed in and helped me refine it.

Huh okay. I took a TM course over the summer but focused almost exclusively on LR and realized after the LSAT that I had almost zero strategy for grouping games. Reading comp is also all over the place, on my most recent PT I had -1 but sometimes it's -10. Skimming passages after I read them thoroughly a first time does seem to help.
I've noticed that on every section, details and nerves are my biggest enemies. Grouping games are still sometimes problematic, but when I do untimed tests I get very few questions wrong. On the actual LSAT I finished every single section with 3-4 minutes to spare and think I was going way too fast. I tend to miss details on LR, the main gist on RC, and don't think about LG enough before diving into the questions.
At this point, I'm doing timed sections and trying to hammer down strategy. Controlling nerves is also a big problem. I don't really know how else to study for it.

That will help. The bright news: LG is probably the easiest to improve because much of it is about strategy and setting up diagrams properly. I used Powerscore, but I also took the LSAT 5 years ago, so I will back off for people who have taken it more recently. You've identified a problem, dude. That's a big victory already.

Yeah, you seem to know what you're doing, which is good. Everyone hits a plateau where they PT a ton at the same, but keep going through PTs and eventually you'll get the nerves under control.

I'm with the OP. It sucks to get stuck in a certain range--for me I PT (timed) around 165-168 depending on the day. Untimed I still usually miss a couple in each section, whether its because I don't read all of the answer choices, bring in knowledge from the 'real world' about how words are used that doesn't necessarily apply to the LSAT, or just forget to take a deep breath. Hoping to fix these problems in the coming weeks bc I need a good score to make up for my 3.55

Re: 3.77/159?
I completely forgot that I had started this thread... sorry for ignoring everyone's advice! You guys have made me feel better about it, esp because knowing what I'm doing wrong seems to be a big step. I haven't actually done a full PT in a few weeks, but did around 13 before the Sept LSAT and am doing a ton of timed sections (usually 2 or 3 in a row) now. Hoping that the full 5 sections won't be a shock to the system on test day.
And some good news: finally broke the plateau! (based on timed sections) I think I could score around a 165-167 now
Good luck to anyone taking the Dec test!
