3.3 GPA, 173 LSAT-- chances at NYU?

Post by skinnerbox » Sun Nov 09, 2014 7:44 am

Hey TLS!! :o

like I said, I have a 3.3 GPA 173 LSAT, and I am aiming for NYU. I still have one shot left at the LSAT, but for personal reasons I can't take the December test, so I'm trying to see where I can go with the score I have now.

I have looked at mylsn.info and hourumd.com, but mylsn seems to say I have no chance while hourumd says I have 40% (am I reading this right?).

I was also confused because I posted this same question on Lawschooli.com, and they said that I would probably get in. They told me that the worst that could happen with my scores would be getting waitlisted, in which case I can just take the LSAT again in Feb and send the scores in late.

I'm just getting a lot of conflicting info, so I thought it would be best to just ask the more experienced 8) TLS users.

Would it help my chances to apply ED? And I know this is a long shot, but would I be able to receive any scholarship opportunities?

Really appreciate the advice! Thanks!!

Or, expand the range of your search parameters on Mylsn a little bit, so the sample size is bigger:

Also, there is no real boost for ED at NYU.

i'd say a coinflip, maybe a little less
nyu numbers are 167-170-172 and 3.56-3.75-3.87
so you're in splitter territory

you have a great score, but might be worth it to use that retake if you think you could improve
it would improve your chances even though you're above the 75th

don't apply ed
it's not that $ is impossible if you apply ed, but it's far less likely

I had a 3.3/173 last cycle and got into NYU RD, but I a) got my application in early and b) have very good softs. It's definitely possible, but it's going to depend on what their needs are and what you bring to the table outside of pure numbers. Put together a solid app and get it in as soon as possible. Also, apply broadly. Who gives a f*ck what your chances are at NYU, what you really should be interested in is getting into a T14 with the best employment prospects to price ratio as possible.

there's nothing unusual about wanting to know your odds at a certain school
there are plenty of legitimate reasons to be more interested in one school than another

of course, i agree that op should apply broadly and not ed

Thanks so much for all the advice everyone-- it really helped.
I will definitely not be applying ED anymore, and yes I will just apply broadly and see :P
