What LSAT score should I max out at?

Post by MattM » Sun Nov 09, 2014 2:10 am

Somewhat self explanatory.....but at what point would I get diminishing returns by studying for the LSAT and should focus on other parts of my app?

Started off with horrible 145 cold diag in Feb ...now I'm at a 170ish level ( RC my only real weakness on the exam)

Is a 170-172 test day score my realistic stopping point that i shouldn't retake past that point? 3.55 GPA can bring up to 3.65 when I graduate

I see myself out at HYS and UC Berkeley ......So I'm not sure if there is a real need to retake for a 174+ If I got a 170-172 on test day,....I was also thinking at 172 and above there is more risk involved in retaking as your score will probably stay about the same or maybe drop a bit

Rule of thumb is you get diminishing returns after you're past a school's 75th percentile, but Harvard's 75th is 176 I believe, and if you have a 3.6/176+ you have a solid shot at H. So my suggestion is aim for 175+.

The lsat goes from 120-180, so you max out when you hit 180

since you've taken hys off the table, don't worry about the "risk involved in retaking"
if you have another take available and you think you could improve, use it
there's some truth to diminishing returns past the 75th percentile, but it's not a bright line rule
i retook a 172 (nyu's 75th) for a 179, had a far better outcome on the aid side than i would have with the 172
