Where to ED with 3.16/166 international applicant

Post by UchihaItachi » Sun Oct 26, 2014 7:35 am

Good day all,

I have exchausted my LSAT tries, and now I need to decide where to ED. Money is not an issue, and this will be clear in my application (school will give me 0$ financial aid). Now where should I ED with these stats:

1- 166 LSAT
2- 3.16 engineering undergrad ( top 20 school )
3- mediocre extracurriculars and softs (leader of tennis team .. etc)
4- 2 yrs work experience in a consulting firm
5- Will practice law abroad (not planning on working in the states)
6- Want to maximize my chances at going to higher ranked school (location, living expenses .. etc don't matter, only ranking does)

Where should I ED (or rather, in what order) ?
1- USC (Deadline: Nov 15)
2- Georgetown (Deadline: 2015)
3- UMich (Deadline: 2015)
4- UT Austin (Deadline: Nov 1)
5- Northwestern (Deadline: 2015)
6- U of Minnesota (Deadline: Nov 15)

Thanks in advance!

Don't bother EDing Minnesota. Despite its ranking it's still nothing more than a regional school.

EDing Minnesota?

Sounds like you need to do a lot more research about law schools

Also retake

Care to explain?

I thought I made myself clear in my post that ONLY current ranking mattered to me. Why, you may ask? Because getting into a higher ranked school where I'm from means higher salary. As simple as that. And if EDing at Minnesota would be my best bet at going into the highest ranked school I can get into, then that would seem like an awesome plan, wouldn't it?

As for your "retake" advice, please read the first sentence in my post.

So just to be clear, you have an 100% scholarship no matter if you go to CUNY or USC, the only thing that matters to a future employer in a job you're guaranteed to get back in your own country is contingent upon the (current) USNWR rankings for law schools, and there's a massive enough difference in starting salary at this guaranteed job between schools that you literally couldn't care less whether you live in California or Minnesota for three years.

And on top of all of that, you're better off going to an American law school than a law school in your home country where you actually want to practice law. But for reasons that are not entirely known, employers in your home country would rather hire American JDs at midling American schools than graduates that have, you know, actually learned law that's applicable to the home country.

Am I missing anything?

You don't have a shot at Georgetown, Mich, Texas, or Northwestern, so this absurd hypo has an easy solution--USC or Minnesota. I actually don't know which one of those is ranked higher, despite the fact that I post on a law school forum. It's unbelievable that an employer in a foreign country not only knows their respective ranks but also determines salary based on them.

I figured as much, but then I saw this sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... sp=sharing

It appears that applicants with numbers close to mine have been accepted to Georgetown even without ED. That's why I was contemplating applying to GULC ED .. Thoughts on this ?

Looking at that chart and at LSN (http://gulc.lawschoolnumbers.com/stats/1415), it still seems like your GPA is too low when paired with a 166. A 168 would have made a huge difference.

The # of LSAT takers is still declining, so it might be worth a shot anyway.
