Don't ED, you have a good chance at Duke and other lower T14's RD.

This. No point in EDing. You will almost certainly be accepted by Duke RD, and you can use other acceptances as leverage for scholarship negotiation.

Definitely don't ED Duke

I was accepted RD with virtually identical (GPA a little worse) stats two cycles ago

Pretty much. Or if you get something it'll be less than you would get otherwise.

one more question -- I had a 3.87 before spring quarter, was dealing with health issues and a tough course and ended up getting a C (the only C I have on my transcript). should i write an addendum for this for duke or is that not necessary since i'm above their median GPA (rgdless of whether i go ED or not).

Don't write an addendum for one C.

I would also use up another retake (for maybe 4-5 more points) and take a couple years off to get WE.

Is this the general consensus? No addendum for one C?

Yeah. Common sense dictates that you don't write an addendum.

Why not just write an addendum for the classes you took which caused you to get a 3.87 instead of a 4.0?

Have you contemplated writing an addendum to try and explain why you didn't get a 180?

Read mylsn.info and this website more. You'll find all the answers you're looking for. All try to be more normal.

there's no reason to apply ED unless you're wealthy or have someone else paying your way (gi bill, employer, parents, etc). duke may be a top school, but there's no school worth $300k at repayment, period.

yeah just apply normal, I had pretty much the same stats, slightly higher gpa and got in 3 cycles ago. You should be good to go for duke and similar schools, especially with the huge drop in applicants.
