You should rename your "safety" section "danger"

What other schools would you recommend? Also I just took the September test, don't think I improved and if I got lucky, probably not by much. Im also planning on applying to some higher reaches, and a few more targets as well. No more retaking so its all in from here

The recommendation is retake. For your goals, that's the only reasonable path.niplomo wrote:What other schools would you recommend? I just recently retook (awaiting results). That was what was recommended to me after receiving my first score as well. Im a listener! lolflawschoolkid wrote:The recommendation is retake. 166/3.44, aiming for biglaw/fedclerk
your list:
out at uva
out at gulc
probably in at gw / 32.8% biglaw + fedclerk (substantially lower if no ip background)
in at maryland / 14.1% biglaw + fedclerk
wl at american (yield protect)

Re: Deciding Where to Apply
ed gulc isn't impossible, but highly unlikely
plus what a nightmare that would be, unless you're rich or have gi bill/employer paying
yield protect is when you're dinged for having numbers that are too high
schools want to increase the number of accepted students who matriculate (their yield)
you can prob overcome that by showing sufficient interest
but idk why anyone would be interested in that trash pit

I'd throw in W&M for a target for you and Duke for a reach considering you want DC

What you think is your best case scenario (GeorgeTTTown at sticker) is a truly terrible outcome.

I feel as if the chances at Big Law or Clerkship aren't that good at GULC to justify going there sticker over GW with money.Brut wrote:ed gulc isn't impossible, but highly unlikely

yeah gulc at sticker is a risk not worth taking for most studentsniplomo wrote:I feel as if the chances at Big Law or Clerkship aren't that good at GULC to justify going there sticker over GW with money.Brut wrote:ed gulc isn't impossible, but highly unlikely

you have a lot more leeway with 3.44 nowadays than you did a few years ago
the key is to get above those 75th percentiles, you really should retake
i have a lower gpa and got nyu with $$
eta: since you want to stay in the general area for ls, i'd recommend retaking and shooting for uva
apply broadly though

You can't say "I'm aiming for big law or a federal clerkship" and "I'm rolling with a 3.4/166" at the same time.
I'll also co-sign GULC at sticker being an awful decision. Chance of getting big law is around a coinfip and even if you win, you're like 300K in debt. I'm staring down the barrel of less than 1/3 of that and paying it off is going to be a PITA. I can't even fathom 300K. That's so much money.
