3.63 - 174... Trying to decide what to do

Post by Dog » Wed Sep 24, 2014 9:44 pm

Hey guys.

Like I said my stats are:

174 (one take)
3.63
One year between K-JD (this year)

I've been thinking about applying to NU ED for a while but more and more I'm starting to think about the possibility of seeing my apps all play out. I've plugged in some myLSN numbers and over the last couple years people are even getting into Harvard with similar numbers. Some have gotten significant money at schools like Chicago. I might want big law but to be perfectly honest I like keeping my options open and I'm not entirely sold on it. That said, I don't have notable work experience and the NU ED is definitely not a sure thing.

What do you guys think I should do? Would I bet stupid to pass up a chance at the $150k scholarship with my numbers? Somebody talk some sense into me haha.

Thanks.

NU ED is probably the smart move. If you apply RD you'll get some excellent offers, but I don't think you'd get 150k anywhere.

I agree with this, the tough question for me is whether any superior schools would offer me enough to come into consideration with the 150k offer.

Numbers are very close to yours, although a tiny bit lower (3.6/173). My best offer was 75k at Cornell or 25k at NYU.

Apply ED to Northwestern if you have even the slightest interest in being in Chicago.

While I've seen people with your numbers do better, this post has me convinced I want to ED. If I don't, I risk losing much more than I potentially could gain. What cycle did you apply in?

Last year. I was K-JD, and my gpa was a bit lower when I applied (nearly 3.5).

I'm sure you'll have a better cycle then I did. I don't know that I'd bet 150k on it though.

it's a tough one dude

3.84/172 - Admit w/ $150k
3.84/171 - Admit w/ $150k
3.83/171 - Admit w/ $150k
3.69/172 - Admit w/ $150k
3.67/172 - Admit w/ $150k
3.66/171 - Admit w/ $150k
3.65/172 - Admit w/ $150k
3.60/173 - Admit w/ $150k
3.55/174 - Admit w/ $150k
3.49/170 - Deferred to RD -> WL
3.48/174 - Admit w/ $150k
3.30/171 - Deferred to RD -> WL -> Admit
3.09/175 - Deferred to RD -> WL -> Admit
2.90/174 - Deferred to RD -> Admit
2.54/173 - Deferred to RD -> WL -> Admit

$56,134 1L tuition
(3.64% tuition cost inflation per year)
$58,177 2L tuition
$60,295 3L tuition
grand total:
$174,606
subtract scholarship
$24,606 (pre-interest and fees)
+ living expenses + fees/interest

i think you're competitive for ed
and nu for $24.6k + COL is a great outcome
if you want chi, i say go for it
i say go even if you're not crazy about chi but could manage it
if you really want to end up somewhere else though, i think you'll have other good t14 offers
(maybe not $150k good though)

Wow that's a much better sample size for NU ED results than I was able to find. Those numbers definitely make me look competitive, everyone with a 3.5+ and a 170+ got accepted. The best guy that didn't get it was .1+ GPA behind me and 4 LSAT points lower.

While I don't feel heavily committed to any particular legal market, I've got the strongest ties to Chicago and that's probably the leading preference right now. This is probably a no brainer. Thanks guys.

If Chicago is your number 1 choice, definitely ED NU. Congratulations on doing well on the LSAT. Best of luck.
