170 / 3.67 gpa / phd in EE / gpa calc for credit transfer

Post by soulelec3fy » Mon Jul 14, 2014 8:03 pm

Hi guys,

Wanted to see how I would fit.
I want to work in ip, hoping for Stan/UC Berk.
I wasnt sure if I should retake, especially with the burden to study while working.

Specs are:

- LSAT: 170 (one take)
- Undergrad GPA: 3.67
- School: Within Top 5 for EE, BS/MS/PhD all from same school
- Currently working at leading semiconductor tech company as a senior engineer, will have 3 years of experience by the time of entering law school (currently at 2yrs)

Also in terms of calculating gpa, i actually took alot of credit hours during ug, so ended up transferring couple hours toward my ms degree.
Although originally at 3.75, that credit transfer actually reduced my official gpa to 3.67 (didnt really care about gpa at that time....)

Seems obvious, but I still just go with the 3.67?
Or do I need to input all credits that I gained during my ug yrs?

Thx ahead for your comments :)

You have a good chance at Berk, but you would probably need a +3 point increase on your LSAT Stanford.

Specifically re: your GPA question, LSAC will count every university class that you took before you received your first bachelor's, regardless of what degree your school counted it for. So if you took those MS courses before actually getting your BS, LSAC will (should?) count them in your GPA, even if your school didn't calculate them into your UGPA.

Thanks for the replies :)
I hope that I would be able to write a strong enough sop for the schools I am interested in.
Maybe I could get a bit of a boost with the proper letters....
