Is it stupid to only apply to these schools with my stats? Forum

Hi guys and girls,

First of all, thanks for any answers/advice you might have.

My numbers are 3.96/170 with average softs (K-JD; I'll be graduating early).

I intend to only apply to schools that I actually want to attend, so I'd just like some feedback as to whether it is likely that I will get into any of these (and possible scholly, if anyone knows)?

Barring any major red flags in your app, you should get into the schools you listed on the lower end of the T-14. Those at the top will be more of a gamble, but still possible.

ETA: If I had any tip for a resume booster, it'd be to take some time off from school (at least 1-2 years) and go contribute to something that is meaningful to you.

In at NYU and below (with Berkeley as a typical unknown), good chance at CLS/HLS; average softs don't portend well for Stanford and Yale.

My one concern with your list would be if Berkeley is a prime target. Assuming fee waivers across the board, you should add Michigan and Virginia to get the greatest chance at a matching scholarship. If you don't care particularly about boalt, then your list is fine.

If you apply to a school, you also apply to its peers, to leverage for scholly offers. So yes, pretty stupid to leave off Cornell, Northwestern, etc.

Re-take, a 170 is really good, but something in the mid-170s would make the top schools more likely.
Then add NU, UVA and Cornell for negotiating.

Id also throw an app at Cornell, which berkely accepts for matching. They don't accept Georgetown nor Virginia though.
