Hypothetical about ED

Post by Mr.Esquire » Wed May 07, 2014 7:28 pm

If I am building my GPA from something pretty low....lets say I currently have a 2.8....and a 172....and I want to ED to UVA, Penn, and/or Michigan. Anyways, just schools of those caliber. If I ED and get rejected, am I able to apply as an RD, after another semester of 20 or so credit's of A's, which now puts me at a 3.0-3.1? I understand that applying ED guarantees a decision before RD opens, but the issue with my situation, is that my GPA will be climbing with each subsequent credit I earn. Would it be advisable to include in my GPA addendum that I plan and will earn A or A-'s the rest of my time in UG, and will stipulate to a decision that is contingent upon that promise.

I am starting to ramble. I basically want to know since splitters have a better chance to be admitted through ED then RD, if I was to be rejected in ED, can I re-apply once my GPA improves during RD.

Thanks.

I don't think that you can reapply - your application might be deferred to RD at which point you could just update the school with your fall semester grades. I would not mention in an addendum that you "will be getting all As and A-s for the rest of UG" because how could you possibly know that? It's definitely off-putting. You could point toward an upward trend though if it exists.

I'd also suggest putting some distance between yourself and that GPA (like 2+ years WE) and then applying to Northwestern. With a high enough LSAT you might cop that full tuition scholly ED.

That's not going to happen, but OP should get work experience/apply with a >3.0 GPA regardless.

I agree with twenty that I am out of the running for ED at Northwestern regardless. But I will not be ending with a sub 3. I will have a 3.4-3.4. I do have work experience already as well. But I appreciate the replies.

If you're close enough to being able to graduate I'm not sure how you're going from a 2.8 to 3.4. I applied with a 2.8 and in the fall semester of my senior year had a 3.75 and it barely pulled me up to around a 2.9.

Oh sorry - I was projecting Northwestern's general love for splitters onto their ED program, which is not the case looking at some LSN data. Sorry for the confusion!
